Cassandra Sweeney and her two sons were murdered on August 3. A minor is believed to have done it. On August 11, Northfield Police arrested the minor.

Attorney General John M. Formella, State Police Colonel Nathan Noyes and Northfield Police Chief John Raffaelly said Thursday that Kassandra Sweeney, 25, and her two children, Benjamin, 4, and Mason, 1 had died in a triple homicide.

Juvenile tips, which protect minors’ identities and prevent more information from being released in cases involving them, were cited as the reason why no other information about the teen was made public.

No one knows if the Sweeney family knew the child or had any other information, such as the child’s age, that would have helped them find it.

A person involved in the case says prosecutors can request that a juvenile delinquent be tried as an adult, after which the court makes the final decision. The official also said he doesn’t know if that will happen in this case or not.
