A Volusia county lady has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for the death of her 5-month-old baby, who died after being beaten and thrown to the ground after refusing to stop sobbing.

The 5-month-old child was killed on June 12, 2019, when his father dropped him on his head and smashed him into a table, according to Michigan State Police.

The late couple’s child, Daemon, was around five months old and weighed around 12 pounds. A report alleges that on June 11, 2019, Scott dialed 911 to report that his son was having trouble breathing while the family was staying in an RV at 19 N. Yonge St. in Ormond Beach.

Stephanie Holly, 37, pleaded not guilty to charges of neglecting a child causing substantial bodily harm, failing to report child abuse/neglect and criminal negligence, according to the Volusia and Flagler County Attorney’s Office.

Circuit Judge Dawn Nichols found Holly guilty Friday and received a 12-year sentence with an additional eight years of probation. The state’s case was successfully followed up by Assistant District Attorney Andrew Urbanak. The verdict was rendered by the Competent Judge, the Honorable Dawn Nichols.

She claimed the child’s injuries were caused by a fan accidentally falling on his face. She stated that she was unaware of the child’s cigarette burn and that he believed his injuries were “not that serious,” according to a police report.

Caleb J. Scott, the baby’s father, was convicted of first-degree murder, aggravated child molestation and neglect with the risk of great bodily harm. He is currently incarcerated.

Scott is said to have been caring for Damon in Ormond Beach in 2019 when the child wouldn’t stop sobbing, according to prosecutors. The 5-month-old boy was allegedly beaten several more times and thrown to the ground by the defendant to stifle his wailing.

When emergency responders arrived, they found Damon was dehydrated and unconscious. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead. According to the arrest report, medical staff discovered the boy with bruises in various stages of healing, wounds on his face and possibly an incendiary pin behind his ear.

Also, in 2020, Holly, Scott’s ex-girlfriend, was arrested in Michigan. Ormond Beach Police questioned Holly in June 2019 after Scott and Holly called 911 to report that their child was not breathing.

After her incarceration, Stephanie Holly was transferred to the Volusia County Women’s Prison. A year ago, the couple’s 5-month-old child, Daemon Scott, was murdered. Holly is being held in Monroe on $210,000 bail while awaiting extradition to Florida.

All inmates and guests arriving at the Volusia County Women’s Prison are reportedly searched. Under Florida law, contraband includes items such as firearms or items that can be used as weapons (e.g., a keychain that doubles as a pocket knife), prescription and illegal narcotics, over-the-counter drugs or cosmetics, and tobacco products.

This arrest was hailed by Ormond Beach Police Commissioner Jesse Godfrey as another example of the department’s excellent investigative work and cooperation with prosecutors. The witness states, “Baby Daemon, the victim, will be adequately represented in court.” “I have no doubt that justice will be served in this difficult investigation.”
