Cheri Oteri says Judge Judy tried to set her up with her son

Cheri Oteri says Judge Judy once set her up with her son – and unknowingly influenced her to buy an expensive purse.

A 59-year-old graduate of Saturday Night Live shared a hilarious story Wednesday episode of the podcast “Behind the Velvet Rope with David Yontef”saying that her famous personification of Barbara Walters is what first caught the attention of the queen of the show.

“Judge Judy called my supervisor and said,” Tell your client I said she almost got me! ” Oteri shared, describing the intimidating reality star (real name: Judy Sheindlin) as a “doll”.

It was during Oteri’s five-year performance on SNL (1995 to 2006) that she first met Sheindlin.

“I met her at an event in New York and she came up to me and she was so cool,” explained the comedian. “And she says, ‘Can I give my son your number?’ I’m like, I’m not going to say no. I say, “Judy, I don’t know. Look, if that didn’t work out, you’re the last person I want to piss off. And she says, “No, I’m not like that. You know, it’ll be okay.

And it was! Chuckling, Oteri revealed that she had “gone out several times” with one of Sheindlin’s three sons, whom she had not named.

She told host David Yontef that he was “handsome” but their romance was cut short due to distance.

“I was going to LA for the summer and he was in New York,” she said, explaining that their accidental tryst just ended. “It couldn’t have ended better.”

Oteri shared another hysterical story about 79-year-old Sheindlin, which ended in the comedian losing about five times the amount she wanted to spend on a designer purse.

“I saw her in a department store one time and she was so cool,” said the comedian. “And she says to me, ‘What are you looking for?’ And I say, “Uh, purse.” And she says, “Let me see you.”

Oteri said the impromptu shopping made her so “nervous” that she thought, “Let’s just choose anything to make it end.”

Trying to stay calm while speeding up the purchase, she said she pointed to a random Bottega Veneta bag that Sheindlin happened to love.

“She says,“ Oh, that’s great. You get it, ”Oteri recalls, saying the clerk soon informed her that it was $ 1,000.

“I go:” Sweet Baby Jesus! ” AND [Sheindlin] he didn’t blink an eye! ” she said. “And I say,” I don’t think I will ever spend more than maybe $ 200 on a purse “… [But] I had no choice! So I gave him my credit card.

“I remember going back to SNL with a bag and our wardrobe asked me,” Is that Bottega Veneta? ” And I say, “Uhm.” He looked at me like, “Wow, you have good taste!” And I say, “No, Judge Judah told me to buy it.”

After telling a few others about how the purse became her property, Oteri said she decided to abandon the spiel and take ownership of the expensive purchase.

Years later, when Sheindlin was earning her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2006, she called her and asked her to attend the event personally.

“I asked,“ What? ”Oteri recalled thinking. But of course she did.

The comedian said that the man on the podium who conducted the ceremony started clattering all the familiar faces that were there.

“And he says,” Oh, we’ve got a lot of celebrities to support her. ” And he just lists the names of all these famous people. And as if he had finished. And then she leans in and [goes]”And Cheri Oteri is here!” – she recalled.

“I say,” That fucking chick is the coolest tough guy. It was amazing. It was. She’s just everything, you know?
