Power generator rings don’t ring true in GoT comparisons

When it comes down to it, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and House of the Dragon cannot be compared.

As the creative team of Rings of Power points out, aside from being massive fantasy series, they don’t have much in common. So why were these two shows pitted against each other? Well, Rings of Power executive producer Lindsay Weber suspects it’s all about getting clicks.

“It’s completely manufactured by the media for headlines,” Weber said at the time Rings of Power panel discussion on Aug. 23, according to Variety. “I am quite sure that the cast and crew do not feel this either. They know how difficult it is to do such things.”

Co-author of the show Patrick McKay added: “If you were an archaeologist and a gardener, it might look similar, but they couldn’t be more different.”

As for the showrunner J. D. Payne, he’s more worried about how fans will receive the show. “Competition is the pressure we put on ourselves and the competition we have with ourselves to see what we can show the world,” he explained. “I hope so [our series] will unite people as a kind of cultural conversation.”
