Tragic details of Naomi Judd’s suicide revealed in the autopsy report
Naomi Judd’s manner of death was deemed suicide, according to an autopsy report from a Nashville doctor’s office obtained by Page Six on Friday.
The report also confirmed that the 76-year-old singer “Love Can Build a Bridge” was found “not responding at home by family” at 10:57 local time on April 30.
“She apparently had a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was transferred to the Williamson Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival,” the document also states.
According to an autopsy, Judd has a history of suffering from “significant” anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, chronic idiopathic pneumonia, hepatitis C, hypertension and hypothyroidism.
“In every family, the deceased had previous suicidal thoughts and recent life stressors,” the report said. “A gun and a note with suicidal connotations were found near the deceased at the scene.”
It was suspected that the cause of Judd’s death was suicide within days of the death of the country star, given her public struggle against mental health.
Her daughter, Naomi Judd, later confirmed on Good Morning America that her mother shot herself and the actress was the one who “discovered” her.
“She used a weapon. My mother used firearms, said Diane Sawyer, 54-year-old Double Jeopardy star. “So this is information that we are very uncomfortably sharing.”
According to the autopsy report, the gunshot “penetrated the right side of the scalp and entered the skull through an entry-type gunshot wound.”
A toxicology report, also provided by the Nashville medical office, revealed that the singer “Mama He’s Crazy” had several different medications in her body at the time of her death, including drugs to treat insomnia, Parkinson’s disease, depression and seizures.
Earlier this month, Judd’s surviving family members applied for her death certificate to be sealed due to the “macabre” way she died.
Ashley, her sister Wynonna, and Naomi’s husband Larry Strickland said in court papers obtained by NBC that disclosure of the investigation files could cause them “emotional despair, pain and mental anguish.”
Naomi’s estate official did not immediately ask Page Six for comment on the results of the star’s autopsy report.
