On August 27, the Olympian shared the terrible news on social networks that her mother, Linda Kron“lost the battle with ALS.”

“She died peacefully with me holding her hand exactly one year after her diagnosis.” – she shared in a post on Instagram, along with a series of throwback and recent photos of the two together. “I am so grateful for every moment I had with her, but I am also grateful that she is no longer suffering and is at peace. She was a shining light that will never go out and I will always be inspired by her.”

Lindsay, who is the most decorated skier of all time, also echoed the dedication to her mother in her 2022 memoir, Liftnaming the passage “unfortunately, not suitable now”.

“She inspires me not because of what she has done for my skiing career, but because of how her eternal positivity has shaped me into the person I am, and most importantly, off the slopes,” she originally wrote in the book . “Every adversity I faced, I found perspective and inspiration in it. During the many difficulties in her life, they only made her stronger, kinder and humbler. Such hardness has shaped me since childhood. Whether I knew it then or not, I know it now.”
