Nicki Minaj Receives Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award

Sound the alarm because Nicki Minaj just added a new trophy to her collection.

The “Chun-Li” rapper was officially honored with the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards. Nicki took to the stage on August 28 to say a few words about the iconic achievement — and highlight another milestone she recently welcomed: motherhood .

“You guys are my babies, but I have a new baby,” Nicki said on stage. “I have a new baby. His name Daddy Bear. i love you Mom loves you so much.”

While Niki was sure to shout to her little one who she and her husband were Kenneth Petty welcoming in September 2020, she also took the opportunity to give a shout-out to others in her life, including those who helped shape her skills in music.

She noted, “I want to thank all the key people who have inspired me and who I believe have inspired my life…Lil Wayne, Foxy Brown, Lauryn Hill, Jay Z, Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh.”
