Willow Smith reflects on the ‘radical’ decision to shave her head

Willow Smith is a transparent soul about her relationship with hair.

21-year-old daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith In 2010, she had a career breakthrough when she released the song “Whip My Hair”. At the time of the single’s release, 9-year-old Willow sported long braids, which embodied the theme of her song. However, only a couple of years later, the singer decided to shave her hair.

Now she reflects on what it meant to her.

“I like seeing the reflections on my scalp, the reflection of the light,” Willow said Glamor UK in an interview dated September 1. “Shaving my head is probably the most radical thing I’ve done in the name of beauty.”

She explained that growing up “there were a lot of layers” to her relationship with her hair and skin as a black woman, adding that it was “definitely a learning curve.”

Willow is now known for changing her locks frequently, which she says is usually a sign of her mood.

“No matter how I feel, I like doing it. I don’t really like to think about it,” she said. “I like to be free with it. I think sometimes just being yourself is radical.”
