This summary of the sixth episode of “Once Upon a Small Town” contains spoilers.

Episode 6 of Once Upon a Small Town begins with a look at Ji-trauma yul and how he lost his parents in a tragic accident many years ago. Back in the present, Ji-yul pulls Ja-young from the wreckage the same way her father did years before.

Ji-yul watches over Ja-young at the hospital as she lies unconscious. Just as he’s about to hold her hand, Sang-hyeon appears and thanks Ji-yul for helping his friend. Ji-yul leaves the hospital looking sad because Sang-hyeon is there, while Ja-young wakes up from her sleep and tells Sang-hyeon that she’s fine.

When she asks how he got there, he tells her that Ji-yul told the police about the accident and helped him get to the hospital. He then makes fun of her by saying that he owes the doctor a debt of kindness. Ji-yul leaves without a word when he sees how close he and Sang-hyeon are when he helps her out of the hospital and into her car.

At home, Ja-young tries to thank Ji-yul, but can’t find the right words. While at the peach farm, Sang-hyeon thinks about the time she saw Ji-yul waiting for her in the hospital parking lot. Ji-yul also comes up with his own idea.

The next day, Ja-boss young takes him off work so he can rest, and he uses the time to thank Ji-yul for what he did the day before. But Ji-yul isn’t at the vet clinic, so she leaves popsicles on her way to visit another neighbor. After the events of the last day, Ji-yul goes to the columbarium for her parents.

On their way home, Ja-young and Ji-yul run into each other, which is awkward for both of them. After being confused at first, Ja-young starts to thank him for his help, but has to stop because she receives a very important phone call. As Ja-young looks at Ji-fading yul’s car, Sang-hyeon picks her up, and they go back to talking about the things she and Majeong did. Later, when she mentions what he said about how he feels about her, she playfully asks him to think about it.

Ji-yul goes to an old man’s house to check on his bull. The bull is not doing well, and the man wants Ji-yul to end his suffering by putting him to sleep. The bull does not eat for a month. On the other hand, when the people of Majeong and Huidong got together that night, a fight broke out.

The people of Majeong call Ja-young uncultured because she has no parents, but Ji-yul must make the difficult choice of finding the right medicine to relieve the bull’s pain and end its suffering. Sang-hyeon tries to help Ja-young, even if only for a short time.

Ji-yul helps the bull cross the road while he walks to remove his head. The old man’s kind words to his old friend brought the vet to tears. Later, the man talks to Ji-yul about his parents, and it turns out that he took care of Ji-yul when his parents died. They kind of get along because of the bad things that happened to each of them, and the old man tells them that the people we lose will always come back to us somehow.

The end of Episode 6 of Once Upon a Small Town

But before Ji-yul leaves, the man says that he used to play with Ja-young when they were kids. It brings back a lot of memories and helps Ji-yul understand things better. He finds her sitting by the river and remembers when they were kids and Ja-young was his friend and helped him get over the loss of his parents.

Ji-yul and Ja-young look at each other as memories of their childhood come back. They were standing opposite the place where they used to hang out.

Once Upon a Small Town Episode 6 Review

Well, now that no one is forced to do anything they don’t want to, episode 6 turns out to be a very heartwarming episode. Most viewers were probably waiting for Ji-yul to finally remember Ja-young, and I have to say that I really liked how they brought the story back to her. I almost cried when I saw that old man with a bull. It makes sense that he knows Ji-yul and his relationship with Ja-young from years ago.

Overall, I enjoyed watching this episode, even though it actually made me cry.

Production Team

In August of 2021, Choi Soo-young and Jang Keun-suk were the first two actors offered to star in the series. In September 2021, it was discovered that it didn’t actually work.
