Chennai, Sep 16 (IANS) The Madurai seat of the Madras High Court has sent prominent YouTuber, ‘Savukku’ Shankar to a six-month legal custody for a situation related to his remarks against higher legal executives.

The court has initiated a ‘suo moto’ rage of court proceedings against him over his claims that the entire higher legal executive is full of debasement he made in a meeting on a YouTube channel in July 22.

The bench comprising Judges, GR Swaminathan and B. Pugalendhi found that the YouTuber did not show any remorse for his statement nor did he apologise.

It further saw ‘Savukku’ Shankar speak the truth declaring that he was legitimate in making such cases.

The chair also said that the proclamations made by him would lower the popularity and pride of the courts and judges before the people at large.

“We would have closed the proceedings if the contemnor understood his wrong step and sincerely apologized. Anyway without doing that the contemnor complied with his situation. Truth be told, his leadership for more than two weeks would constitute of displays of judgment alone,” said the judges.

They added that contempt of court procedures have been initiated by the Madras High Court against the YouTuber for a long time despite all that he has been doing in his outburst against the legal executive.

The chair said: “The contemnor reiterated his intention to continue his attack on the legal executive. He went to the level to declare that he could be condemned exclusively to a limit of half a year and that at the end of the discharge he would concentrate attention to judges and legal executives.

“There are occasions when judges must be firm and harsh. To shrug off such incitements by declaring that we are dealing with broad shoulders will be viewed as an indication of deficiency. The contemnor showed himself as an unrepentant man.”

The chair also observed that the contemnor is a popular YouTuber who has lakhs of viewers in his meetings.

“In the remark segment of his meetings, the Judges and Courts are described in the harshest terms. It is not a misrepresentation to say that the contemnor hears thousands of people in online entertainment and his words degrade to the glory and pride of this foundation.”

The court also contacted the Service of the Association of Hardware and Data Innovation to ensure that the offending meetings and articles are taken down immediately.
