What happened between Drake and Anthony?

Some tensions have come to light between Drake and music writer Anthony Fantano.

The Needle Drop is a YouTube channel run by a 36 year old user with 2.6 million subscribers. On the channel, the user discusses and criticizes a wide variety of music genres.

Drake has made it clear he isn’t the singer’s biggest fan, and on his YouTube channel he has openly and honestly criticized the singer’s latest albums.

For the past week, the rapper poked fun at the critic in his direct messages (DMs) on Instagram. The critic responded with a hilarious video showing several examples of “fake” DMs, and the rapper continued to poke fun at the critic.

Who is Anthony Fantano?

Anthony Fantano, a music critic from the United States, is the owner of the website and channel on YouTube known as The Needle Drop. His writing on his blog and films he uploads to YouTube discuss and dissect a variety of musical styles.

Fantano’s parents were immigrants to the United States from Sicily, and he was born in Connecticut. In the mid-2000s, Fantano began working at Southern Connecticut State University’s campus radio station, where he was eventually promoted to music director. In 2007, Fantano began his broadcasting career by becoming the host of The Needle Drop on Connecticut Public Radio.

Anthony Fantano shares some fake Drake DMS

On Thursday, September 15, the music critic uploaded a video titled “Drake Slid Into My DMs” to his second YouTube account. The video was published by Fantano on YouTube.

During the eight-minute tape, he showed a series of screenshots and Instagram Direct Messages (DMs) that Drake had sent him from his Instagram account.

He stated that he was lifting weights in the garage when he was distracted by a message from the One Dance singer. He claimed this happened while he was training.

According to him, Drake, a prominent figure in the music industry and a fiery Canadian, reached out to him. Drake is one of the most influential characters in the music business.

A music critic says Drake sent a cookie recipe

According to Anthony, the “strange and unexpected” message wrote: “Anthony! Drizzy is here. I realize that you are not the biggest fan of the bulk of my albums and that we don’t always agree on issues surrounding music.

Before taking an unexpected turn, the message continued by saying, “But it’s what you know, you can always hope you like the next one.”

The music critic explained Drake gave him a recipe for vegan cookies to try, along with a full list of ingredients. He also claimed Drake invited him to try the cookies.

I would be very grateful if you could check this out and let me know if it would be worth my while to try it myself. We appreciate you! Drizzy, go! The message has reached its conclusion.

The following words that came out of Anthony’s mouth were: “It’s amazing he sent me a message”, “Blessed are you” and “You are the best”.

It was extremely obvious that Drake was being sarcastic when he responded to the video by saying that the screenshots he released were fake. His response was given in a hurry.

Anthony Fantano Bio

Anthony Fantano is a music critic and YouTuber from the USA. He was born on October 28, 1985 and runs The Needle Drop YouTube channel and website. He discusses and reviews a wide variety of musical styles on his website and in his videos on YouTube.

Early life

Fantano is of Sicilian-American descent and was born in the US state of Connecticut. The town of Wolcott, Connecticut was his home during his teenage years. Fantano says that Jello Biafra, former lead singer of hardcore punk band Dead Kennedys, was “very much my political idol” as a teenager and the reason he became involved in politics through the work of musician Jello Biafra.

Career

In the mid-2000s, Fantano began his professional life as the music director for Southern Connecticut State University’s campus radio station. In 2007, Fantano began his broadcasting career with a position at Connecticut Public Radio (WNPR), where he eventually became the host of The Needle Drop. In the same year he began publishing written reviews under the name The Needle Drop. In January 2009, he began posting a series of video reviews under the same name on a YouTube channel of the same name. His first review was of a Jay Reatard record. According to Fantano, the fact that his review of Flying Lotus’ 2010 album Cosmogramma was featured in the same section of YouTube’s “Featured Videos” as other videos of Flying Lotus gave him the “clue” to continue making video album reviews. Fantano deleted previous reviews from its website that contained music samples in 2010 to comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and avoid legal trouble. During this time he worked at both a pizza restaurant and college radio station, where he hosted a show called The Needle Drop. In late 2011 he made the decision to devote all his time and energy to The Needle Drop, but he continued his affiliation with WNPR until 2014. Fantano turned down an opportunity to host an album review show on Adult Swim’s network.

As of November 2016, Fantano had started recording more frequently on a secondary YouTube channel called “thatistheplan”. On that channel, he reviewed memes and, according to Spin, “often recorded irreverent videos that don’t fit the record review format.” That earned him enough money to pay his editor, Austin Walsh. In October 2017, an article published in The Fader accused Fantano of promoting alt-right beliefs in videos about “thatistheplan”. This led to this side channel being questioned and a subject of controversy. Both the use of Pepe the Frog memes, only recently labeled as an alt-right icon, and Fantano’s attacks on feminists have drawn criticism from the internet community. Following the publication of the article, numerous scheduled dates of The Needle Drop US tour were canceled and at least one ticketing site for a Brooklyn tour date stated that their cancellation was due to the Fader story. These cancellations occurred after the article was published.

Personal life

Fantano lives in Connecticut, and although she filed for divorce from Dominique Boxley in 2022, they were married for some time. Fantano has been married before. After originally becoming a vegetarian in his late teens, he eventually switched to a vegan diet and has remained so ever since.

According to what Fantano told Polygon in March 2018, he is a “free speech purist.” At the next presidential election in the United States of America, 2020, Fantano has shown his support for Bernie Sanders.
