Dejoune Killingbeck Arrested: Video shows Florida man arrested for child neglect after toddlers wandering around Walmart parking lot

Dejoune Killingbeck, 35, was taken into custody by Florida police and charged with child neglect after two toddlers wearing only diapers crashed into the 15 car. The incident happened while Killingbeck was shopping at the Florida Walmart.

The event was captured with body camera footage that was later uploaded to the internet. The video shows Florida police officers trying to wake up Killingbeck, the father of the two children, who appears somewhat confused when they try to question him. Killingbeck was reportedly put in charge of looking after his children while their mother was shopping at Walmart.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, concerned witnesses on Wednesday night noticed two children running through the parking lot of a Walmart store in Florida in the rain. The children wore only part of their clothes. The customers of the store thereafter were the ones who brought in the infants and toddlers. The children reportedly suffered no injuries.

According to a report by a regional news website called Click Orlando, Walmart staff dressed the teens while Killingbeck dozed off behind the wheel of the vehicle and cared for them until police arrived at the scene.

The following statement was released by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office in response to the incident:

“When MPs arrived, they found Dejoune Killingbeck (born 4/23/1987) unconscious at the wheel of a moving car. While the children’s mother went shopping, he had to look after her. As the children ran through the Florida Walmart parking lot, they appeared to come dangerously close to being hit by a vehicle.

The bodycam footage shows witnesses pointing police officers in the direction of Killingbeck’s vehicle. Afterwards, it’s possible to hear them say that they tried to check on Killingbeck, but he remained in an unconscious state during their efforts. A witness is heard telling the officer in charge, “I tried to check on him, but he’s drooling out of his mouth,” as she describes the victim’s condition.

After bringing him back to consciousness, police ask Killingbeck to leave the van so they can question him, then continue their questioning. However, when asked about the whereabouts of his children, Killingbeck appears confused. It was then stated that he told authorities he was responsible for watching the children while their mother was shopping at Walmart.

According to Click Orlando, as Killingbeck was being carried into a patrol vehicle, he attempted to throw away a chopped straw. This happened while Killingbeck was being escorted. The straw was reportedly seized by police and a field test revealed evidence of the presence of oxycodone and fentanyl.

“Killingbeck initially seemed confused and unaware of what was going on around him. Examination of a shredded straw found in his pocket tested him presumably positive for the presence of oxycodone and fentanyl. This is according to a statement from the police.

Killingbeck was reportedly charged with “two counts of child neglect, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence and driving with a suspended driver’s license.” This information was provided by the authorities.

As the two children wandered around the parking lot, police witnesses said the children came dangerously close to being hit by a moving vehicle.

The children have reportedly been reunited with their mother, and child caretakers have also been made aware of the situation, according to authorities. According to Click Orlando, the mother said she was unaware Killingbeck was under the influence of drugs when she asked him to babysit her children, who were said to be sleeping in the vehicle at the time.

Killingbeck has $16,000 on bail and is now being held in the Volusia County Branch Jail.
