The operator says the set “Don’t worry baby” was “harmonious”
The cinematographer on Don’t Worry Darling claims it was “the most harmonious set” he has ever been on, and there’s confusion about chaos behind the scenes.
“When I hear rumors of annoyance on the set, I dismiss it. Honestly, it wasn’t obvious at all, ”emphasized Matthew Libatique in the latest episode “Behind the Screen” podcast by Hollywood Reporter.
“From my point of view, the stories are completely untrue when it comes to being on set,” he repeated, adding, “I can’t talk about post-production at all.”
An industry veteran who worked on films such as “Requiem for a Dream,” “Black Swan” and Bradley Cooper’s “A Star Is Born,” he admitted, however, that a drama could be taking place after his departure.
“Whatever happened, it happened after I left… I’ve never witnessed anything. And I do not feel anything. You know, you get the feeling that maybe something is happening and I didn’t feel anything, ”explained Libatique, 54.
He also praised director Olivia Wilde, saying that she “believed in every body on set.”
Hollywood has been buzzing about the split between Wild and movie star Florence Pugh since the beginning of this summer, when fans began noticing that the 26-year-old Midsummer star was not promoting “Don’t Worry Baby” on social media.
Page Six reported in late July that Pugh and Wilde, 38, had quarreled over the director’s romance with Harry Styles on set – which we first confirmed in January 2021, just months after she announced her breakup with Jason Sudeikis . .
“I can say for sure that Flo, who saw Olivia and Harry on set, didn’t go well because Olivia was still with Jason when she first got involved with Harry,” a page six source said about the quarrel between the women.
Wilde vehemently denied that the two relationships overlap, describing the Vanity Fair rumor as “a complete idea for a horse that I left Jason for Harry.”
Meanwhile, the movie was even more dramatic – a psychological thriller set in the 1950s – when Wilde claimed that fired Shia LaBeoufwho was then replaced by his current boyfriend Styles, out of production due to his behavior on set.
“After that, a lot came to light that really bothered me about his behavior,” Wilde said in August. “In our movie, we really needed an energy that was incredibly supportive. Especially for a movie like this, I knew I would ask Florence to put herself in very sensitive situations and my priority was to make her feel safe and supported.
LaBeouf denied Wilde’s claims that she had fired him and wrote to her, “We both know the reasons for my departure. I quit your movie because your actors and I couldn’t find the time to rehearse.
He then asked the director of Booksmart to “improve the narrative.”
Around the same time, a video was leaked showing Wilde begging LaBeouf to stay in the film, alluding to the drama between LaBeouf and Pugh.
“I think this might be a wake-up call for Miss Flo and I want to know if you are open to trying with me, with us,” she said.
In September, all eyes were on the cast at the Venice Film Festival. Pugh – who is shooting Dune 2 – arrived late after he left a press conference and missed the film’s New York premiere.
“Florence is a force, we are so grateful to be able to do it tonight despite being in production,” Wilde said at the film festival. “When it comes to endless rumors and tabloid hype, the internet feeds itself. I don’t feel I have to contribute to this. “
