President Biden met with wife Britney Griner at the White House

September 16 President Joe Biden met with Cheryl Greenerwife Britney Greeneras the WNBA star remains in custody in Russia.

In a statement to E! News, White House press secretary Karin Jean-Pierre shared that they met in the Oval Office, where President Biden reaffirmed his “continued commitment to working through all available avenues to bring Greener home safely.”

On the same day, Biden also met separately with Elizabeth Whelansister Paul Whelananother American who has been held in Russia since 2018 and is serving a 16-year term.

“The president appreciated the opportunity to learn more about Brittney and Paul from those who love them most, and recognized that every minute they hold is a minute too long,” the statement said. “We all admire the courage of the Whelan and Griner families in the face of these incredible circumstances, and we remain committed to reuniting them with their loved ones.”
