Anna Wintour is organizing a star fest on the birthday of Baz Luhrmann

Anna Wintour, who seems to have picked up a trick or two after hosting the Met Gala for many years, certainly knows how to throw a party.

A source tells us that the amazing Vogue editor threw an intimate starry party on Sunday night to celebrate the 60th birthday of her close friend, Elvis director Baz Luhrmann.

Hugh Jackman, Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz, Mark Ronson and his wife Grace Gummer, designer Zac Posen, theater producer Jordan Roth, and Wintour’s daughter, Bee Shaffer Carrozzini, were spotted rubbing their elbows at the elegant The Nines piano bar. It was also something of a “Romeo + Juliet” reunion, because Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio, who played the damn lovers in Luhrmann’s 1996 adaptation, were there to celebrate.

DiCaprio has been making party rounds amid the news that he is dating model Gigi Hadid. He left the Nines in a paparazzi pickle and later appeared at the Zero Bond premiere afterparty of “Amsterdam”, we were told.

Broadway singers and performers entered the mics to sing a few songs from Luhrmann’s cult classic “Moulin Rouge”, including the hit “Lady Marmalade.” The movie was turned into a musical in 2018 and is currently playing at the Al Hirschfeld Theater.

Wintour, who can usually be seen staring sternly behind sunglasses, was spotted front and center smiling and dancing with Florence and Machine frontwoman Florence Welch to perform the song “Elephant Love Medley” from the movie.

Luhrmann was given a cake full of sparkles in front of guests such as playwright Jeremy O. Harris, TikTok star Addison Rae, Derek Blasberg and Maureen Dowd of the New York Times, and her former assistant who became New York writer Shawn McCreesh.

Luhrmann said: Wall Street that he and Wintour met when he was half finished with the 2001 Moulin Rouge and already got into the bad press, but Wintour helped him by putting movie star Nicole Kidman on the cover of Vogue. The couple have been friends since then and chaired the Met Gala.

Wintour is freshly staged the successful Vogue World – a fashion extravagance and runway show – in the Meatpacking District, which has featured characters such as Kanye West, Serena Williams and Lil Nas X.
