Ben learns that Ty believes his sister was killed, even though the official cause of death is an opioid overdose. Ty then enlists Ben’s help to get revenge on who he believes killed his sister. He claims that Abilene’s demise represents the demise of American identity and a desire for blame.

Ben informs Ty that he will be staying with Ty’s family for the coming weeks after receiving Eloise’s approval. Ty is excited about the possibility, and so are the rest of the Shaw family, believing Ben is Abilene’s lover. They embrace him with wide arms and spread all the southern hospitality that is known in the region. As the film progresses, Ben discovers that despite their stereotypical actions, there is a sincerity that is severely lacking in his own life. End of Vengeance: What Happened to Abilene?

“Vengeance,” while satirical, is more self-reflective than observational. This is not a story about a liberal city dweller who attends a conservative community and finds the people uninteresting and the setting bizarre. Though it may seem so for a while, this isn’t also a tale about an arrogant semi-intellectual from the city who learns the most important lesson of his life in a tiny hamlet. Until the truth emerges, writer-director Novak allows his character to be the subject of satire.

Ben is overcome with a deep sense of guilt after actually hearing Abilene’s songs given to him by mysterious local music producer Quentin Sellers (Ashton Kutcher). Additionally, he develops a close bond with the Shaw family and becomes self-confident enough to realize that what he is doing to them is nothing short of exploitation. Also, he hears it from enough people that he’s beginning to doubt that Abilene might have overdosed.

But then reality hits him. Abilene’s grandmother’s late grandchild casually mentions opioid use. It turns out that Ty had come up with the idea of ​​telling Ben a lie to keep him in town. Ben discovers Quentin is involved in drug trafficking. Quentin had Abilene’s body transferred to a location that was in the middle of four different jurisdictions after she died in his tent. Because of this, an adequate investigation was not conducted and Abilene’s death was ruled as another case of an opioid overdose.

Why does Ben kill Quentin?

The essence of the film lies in the crucial exchange between Ben and Quentin. Ben’s exploitation of the Shaw family is emphasized by Quentin, who also admits he has taken advantage of the whole town while appearing as a helpful member of society. Ben exposing him to the world is no threat to him as he knows the world would eventually ask for the truth.
