Early years

Nolan Ryan was born on January 31, 1947, in Refugio, Texas, a small town in the southern part of the state just south of Victoria. Ryan is the youngest of Lynn Nolan Ryan Sr.’s six children. and Martha Lee (Hancock) Ryan (1907–1970). The senior Ryan worked for the Houston Post as a newspaper deliveryman. Ryan’s family lived in nearby Woodsboro, Texas, in Refugio County, until Nolan was six weeks old, when they moved to Alvin, Texas, in Brazoria County.
