Kelly Ripa worries about Mark Consuelos’ divorce as empty slots
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos’ marriage changed when their children entered college, leaving the talk show host worried that they would “divorce” as empty nestlings.
“It’s scary, exciting, liberating, shocking … and quiet,” co-host of “Live with Kelly and Ryan” said the People her new dynamics with the star of “Riverdale” in an interview published on Monday.
“There were times when I thought,” We’re going to be that couple: our third child is going to college and we’re getting divorced because that’s it, “she explained.
Ripa, 51, admitted to the magazine that she and Consuelos, also 51, were “too young” when they married in May 1996 at the age of 25.
“On paper, it shouldn’t work, and when it didn’t, we were really working on it,” she said.
“We fought for our marriage when it would have been easier to quit and throw in the towel.”
Ripa – who shares 25-year-old Michael, 21-year-old Lola and 19-year-old Joaquin with Consuelos – called the “next phase [their] she lives … kind of great, “recalling the turning point on the beach with her husband.
“These other parents were running around with their young children,” she recalled. “I realized that I never saw the sun go down because I made sure our kids didn’t run into the water when I wasn’t looking.”
Ripa began telling about her sex life, telling the magician that she “had no inhibitions” while she was in bed with her ex-All My Children star.
“[That’s] the one part of our life that has always been very good, ”she gushed. “Even when we argue, it’s okay.”
Ripa is no stranger to be honest about her and Consuelos’ chemistry.
Ripa told the audience of her ABC show in September 2021 that her husband was using “sexy time” to fix his problems.
In June 2019, she and the actor wondered how their daughter entered them having sex, saying that Lola told them, “You just ruined my birthday and my life and I saw in color and now everything is gray.”
Lola began her first year of study at New York University in 2019, a year before Michael graduated from the same school.
Joaquin began studying at the University of Michigan in 2021.
