Munawar Faruqi

Early life

On January 28, 1992, Faruqui was welcomed into the world by his Indian Muslim parents in Junagadh, Gujarat. When he was 16, his family moved to Mumbai after the sectarian violence that took place in Gujarat in 2002 caused the destruction of his home. Shortly after this tragedy, his mother passed away.

When his father fell ill, he had to work at just 17 to support his family. While still at school, he worked in a shop that sold kitchen utensils.

Faruqui was in the middle of his tour, during which he performed stand-up comedy at several venues across India. In Indore, Madhya Pradesh, he was performing a stand up show at Munro Cafe on January 1, 2021 when it was interrupted by Eklavya Singh Gaur son of BJP MLA Malini Gaur.
