Rapper Coolio died at the age of 59

Coolioknown for his 90s hit “Gangsta’s Paradise” from the film Dangerous minds, died on September 28 in Los Angeles. He was 59.

The news of the rapper’s death was first reported by TMZ. Manager Coolio Jarez Posey confirmed Coolio’s death to NBC News, stating, “As far as I know now, he was at a friend’s house and he was in his bathroom.” Jarez said Coolio died of a suspected heart attack, but an official cause of death has not been confirmed.

According to TMZ, when Coolio didn’t respond to his name, his friend went into the bathroom and found him unresponsive on the floor. The friend then called an ambulance, which arrived at the scene and pronounced Coolio dead.

Coolio, whose real name is Artist Leon Ivy Jr., was born in Monessen, Pennsylvania, and rose to prominence in the ’90s rap scene. At the 1996 ceremony, he won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance for “Gangsta’s Paradise.”
