When Hang Lee disappeared in 1993 after leaving her home in Saint Paul, Minnesota, she left a message for her brother, Koua, which he could only put together piecemeal. Despite the efforts of Hang’s relatives and authorities to search the surrounding sites, there was still no trace of the missing adolescent. What really happened to Hang Lee?

Saint Paul, Minnesota was home to Hang Lee and her family when she was a senior at Highland Park High School. Hang was 17 years old at the time. Hang had many hopes and dreams for the future, especially for herself and her brother Koua Lee, and she was very close to the people she loved. Plus, she was counting down the days until she could finish high school and step into the real world. Hang was adored by everyone, despite his reputation as a metalhead who worked in a neighborhood pub in his spare time for some extra cash.

Hang made a surprising revelation at her workplace on the evening of January 12, 1993, when she informed them by telephone that she would attend an interview the following day. Additionally, while Hang was out with her friend Nikki that same night, she reportedly ran into her brother Koua and told him, “If I don’t come home, come find me, because I don’t trust Nikki.” Despite this being a strange request, Koua didn’t think twice about it and went to sleep. On the other hand, realizing that his sister hadn’t come home the next morning, he immediately made the decision to confront Nikki about it.

Curiously, Nikki claimed she was unaware of the disappearance and could not provide any information about Hang’s location at the time. The concerned and concerned members of Hang’s family informed authorities that she was missing and expressed their concerns. The fact that Hang had previously run away from home was mentioned in some of the files found after her disappearance. Additionally, when Nikki was questioned by the police, she revealed that when she dropped off Hang off, she was with some “white friends.” This led the researchers to believe that the 17-year-old may have eloped with the white companions. As a result, it was said that the investigation into the case was suspended for six months because the police did not believe that a missing person was involved.

Despite this, Hang’s family intended to find out the truth about the situation. As soon as they started handing out flyers all over town, officials started taking the matter seriously and brought in Nikki for more questioning. She then told them that she and her companion Mark had met Steven Wallace, the person who offered the interview, on the night of the night Hang went missing. Additionally, Nikki claimed that Mark took her to her destination before making his way with Hang in his car. However, Mark denied any role in the incident when questioned about it, stating that he had no idea where the missing adolescent was.

Is there still no sign of Hang Lee?

Although it is still considered an open investigation by authorities, Hang Lee has not been found, despite the fact that it has been more than a year since his disappearance. In addition, Hang’s family has agreed that she is no longer with them and has held a ceremony to let her spirit go. When the police began their investigation into Mark Steven Wallace, they discovered that he had been convicted of two separate rape cases in the past. As a result, they focused their investigation on him and went so far as to search his truck, office, and home, but to no avail. Mark insisted time and again that he was innocent of the crime, despite the fact that there was no evidence linking him to the murder.

Thereafter, there was no development in the case until 2009, when Mark’s mother’s neighbor stated he was shocked when he very quickly completed a garage on her property in 2004. At that point, the investigation resumed. Nothing was discovered in the investigation, despite the fact that the police have received search warrants for the garage and have even used sniffer dogs to check the space. In 2017, Mark was taken into custody for a crime that had nothing to do with the others. Searching for information was something Hang’s brother wouldn’t give up. On the other hand, in 2019, detectives discovered that Mark was serving time in prison for a crime unrelated to the one they were looking for and nearly got out. The prosecutor, on the other hand, was not in the mood to release him and asked the judge to send him to the Minnesota Sex Offender Program in Moose Lake. Finally, after hearing testimony from both the prosecution and law enforcement, Mark was sent to the Moose Lake Facility, where he has been and where he is being held to this day.
