How is George Redmond?

George and Mary Redmond were sleeping in bed when unknown assailants set fire to their house, and they fled the scene.

The family of a “lovely” grandfather who died in hospital after a horrific attack at his home have seen it as “swift justice”.

On September 1, at around 3.20am, a fire broke out in their Dorien Road, Old Swan home as George Redmond and Mary, his wife of 52 years, were asleep in bed.

Witnesses reported to the ECHO that a “petrol can” was left in the driveway of the residence.

Additionally, Merseyside Police confirmed that the fire was deliberate.

Residents of the street told the ECHO they were “very positive” they believed the incident was the result of mistaken identity and that they could not think of any justification for anyone assaulting the couple.

For a certain Irish type, the passing of former planning officer George Redmond signals the end of an era.

Mr. Redmond, who died on Tuesday night at the age of 92 in a Dublin hospital, was the most influential person in the city’s local government throughout his 40-year career with Dublin Corporation.
