Fundamental Pictures has legitimately declared that the upcoming Star Excursion movie has been officially pulled from its December release, The Hollywood Writer has discovered.
This news comes a month after Matt Shakman, who was set to oversee the accompanying Excursion film, left the foundation. The boss left due to booking issues in the middle of his other stint at the helm, Marvel’s Sensational Four. Shakman led Miracle’s WandaVision.

“Matt Shakman is an unfathomably talented filmmaker, and we regret that the timing did not work out for him to facilitate our upcoming Star Excursion film,” Central Pictures said in a statement. “We are grateful for his various responsibilities, are energized for the innovative vision of this next piece and look forward to delivering it to crowds from one side of the planet to the next.”
The effort, brought to you by JJ Abrams’ Horrendous Robot, is a major concern at the Melrose Street studio and is slated for a December 22, 2023, release.
Earlier in February, Abrams — who rebooted the sci-fi foundation for the big screen in 2009 — revealed that another Star Excursion movie was in the works. “We are excited to say that we are continuing to work on another Star Excursion movie to be shot before the end of the year that will feature our novel cast,” Abrams said.
