AJ McLean was “surprised” by the change of his daughter’s name
AJ McLean admits he was “a bit surprised” by his daughter’s decision to change his name, but nevertheless gave the 9-year-old his full support.
Member of the Backstreet Boys said in a recent interview with the Today program that his initial reaction to choosing a baby to choose Elliott over her birth, Ava, was, “Well, this is new.”
He continued, “But I support my children in everything they want to do. So now Elliott is Elliott.
McClean, 44, noted that he and his wife Rochelle McLean had yet to legally change the oldest child’s pseudonym.
“I don’t know if that will happen,” he said, noting that the choice “has nothing to do with pronouns” or gender identity.
“He might wake up tomorrow and say,” I’m Ava again. “
The 40-year-old singer and hairdresser is also the parents of a daughter, Lyric, who has hilariously wanted to play a game of changing her name after seeing her sister change.
“[Elliott] he almost started this domino effect because that’s when Lyric wanted to change his name to Ava, ”AJ mentions the 5-year-old. “And I was like,” No. Not. We won’t do this.
Rochelle told her Instagram followers about Elliott’s new name in an august post celebrates their children’s first day of school.
“Last year she asked us to start calling her Elliott and we’re stuck. She wanted something special that no one else had. (There are so many Ava) ”she explained, noting that she saw no“ harm ”in“ respecting ”her child’s choice.
AJ echoed his wife’s feelings in this week’s interview, saying that “there are some girls named Ava” at Elliott’s school and she wanted to be different.
However, the Grammy nominee added: “There will always be an Ava for me.”
