Rolin Jones is the mastermind behind the creation of the gothic horror television series Interview With the Vampire Takes Place, which airs on AMC.

“Interview with the vampire”: what period and age is shown in the series

Anne Rice’s novel of the same name served as inspiration for the film adaptation of the same name. The events of the first chapter of the novel take place in the 1970s and introduce the reader to the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac.

In the course of the title interview, which he conducts with journalist Daniel Molloy, Louis recalls his life story and transports viewers to earlier eras. The decade of the 1790s is the setting for the vast majority of events in this book. Because of this, most of the book is set in the 18th century, but there are also parts set in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

In contrast, the setting of Rolin Jones’ television adaptation, set in the present, differs from the original. In the show, Louis lives in the present, but his conversation with Molloy takes place in the not too distant future (sometime in the 2020s).

Its story takes place in the jazz age, which began in the 1910s. As the story develops, the 20th century will likely become a larger part of the series’ focus. As a result, the series modernizes certain elements of Rice’s original story and places them in a context more relevant to the present.

“Interview with the Vampire”: filming location of the series

Analogous to the historical period, the geographic setting of Rice’s “Interview With the Vampire” will be greatly altered in the adaptation of the story for television. The story begins in New Orleans and then moves on to Louisiana, where the reader is introduced to Louis de Pointe du Lac for the first time.

In the book, Louis is the owner of a plantation. Louis later moves to New Orleans, which eventually becomes the central setting of the story. In contrast, by the time the television series begins, Louis is already established as a resident of New Orleans.

Among other businesses, he owns a brothel in the Liberty Street neighborhood. Rolin Jones, the show’s creator, recently gave an interview in which he discussed the reason for the slight adaptation of the plot of Louis’ story and consequently the setting. Jones noted that he could not relate to the plantation owner element in Louis’ personality, which is why he chose to begin Louis’ story in New Orleans in the 1910s. Jones did this so the narrative had more flavor and sexiness.

Also, during the events of the book, Louis, Claudia, and Lestat take a trip to Europe. After making their way through Eastern Europe, our protagonists eventually make it to Paris, marking a significant turning point in the story. The action takes place in Paris, which not only contributes significantly to Louis and Claudia’s understanding of vampire culture, but also provides an insight into Lestat’s background. For this reason, it is very likely that the main actors in the television adaptation will also travel to Europe, particularly Paris.

The adaptation of Anne Rice’s novel Interview with the Vampire, which will air on AMC, remains faithful to the source material and makes no significant changes to the traditional gothic horror story’s geographic setting. It also modernizes the personalities of Louis and Lestat to add depth to the New Orleans setting of the original material.

“Interview with the Vampire”: Cast

Jacob Anderson, who played Gray Worm in Game of Thrones, will play the role of moody Louis, while Sam Reid, who played Belle, will play the role of sinister Lestat. Casting changes were also made, with creators looking for a black actor in his 30s to play the role of Louis in the new version of the show. Instead of being a plantation owner, as described in the literature, he will be a brothel owner. Little newcomer Bailey Bass will play Claudia, a precocious young vampire originally played by then 10-year-old Kirsten Dunst, in the 1994 film.

Also part of the cast is Eric Bogosian (Uncut Gems), who plays the role of Daniel Malloy, the reporter to whom Louis tells his life story. According to reports, the character will appear much older in the program than in the source material. The cast of the ensemble now also includes Christian Robinson and Kaylne Coleman in recurring functions.

Thankfully, the season’s release isn’t too far away now, having experienced numerous ups and downs over the years. The premiere date for Interview with the Vampire has been announced as October 2, 2022. It was announced by the showrunners that the first season of the program would not cover the entire book, and they have expressed their desire for the story to continue for additional seasons.
