The Beginner’s “Labor Day” (Season 5, Episode 2): Review & Review

Lucy arrives at her house with Chris, who is thankfully still alive after Rosalind cut off his arms and left him for dead on Lucy’s couch in the opening scene of Episode 2 of The Rookie Season 5. An Undercover Academy instructor arrives to recruit them into the academy before they can settle in. According to Lucy, she needs some time to address some issues in her personal life. She has conflicting feelings for Bradford and feels bad about what happened to Chris, but she won’t admit it.

Chris fears Lucy won’t accept the offer as she blames herself for what happened to him. He calls Bradford and asks him to persuade Lucy to take advantage of the situation. When Bradford visits Lucy, he encourages her to take the chance because it will advance her career.

introduction

Meanwhile, Bradford’s sister is back in town preparing for the open house at her childhood home. After selling the house, Bradford is ready to put his traumatic background behind him. His sister is grateful that she has the funds to pay for her legal expenses while she goes through a divorce.

Wesley arrives at the DA office on his first day as a prosecutor. Things aren’t going as well as he’d hoped. His supervisor demands that he pick a case to go to court rather than keep trying to give everyone a free pass. Lopez calls him to ask for his help on her corrupt police case, which saves the day.

Training Officer Thorsen while Harper is on maternity leave gives Nolan the opportunity to gain experience as a training officer. Thorsen at the end of the episode calls him the best training officer he’s ever had and he’s thrilled to have the opportunity. Nolan is approachable and has a wealth of life experience which leads me to believe he would make a fantastic training officer.

More information

While answering a request for welfare, Nolan and Thorsen discover a police officer who appears to have killed himself. A quick preliminary investigation reveals that the police officer was killed. Clues put Lopez and Bradford in charge of the investigation, and they uncover a corrupt group of cops.

While Harper and James move into their new home and prepare for a home birth, James goes into labor. Because of her past trauma, Harper is reluctant to give birth in a hospital. You have a plan and the hospital is only four minutes away if something goes wrong. When Harper shows interest in their new noisy neighbors, James, who thinks he has everything under control, gets a big surprise.

It turns out her new neighbors don’t always obey the law. It all started when Harper was forced to talk to them because they were playing loud music. Gunshots were heard afterwards, but Smitty arrived after contacting the police. Lazy cop that he is, Smitty no doubt believed the neighbors when they claimed to see Dirt Harry. Smitty’s ability to keep his job for so long surprises me.

Her feeble reasoning is dismissed by Harper, who continues to watch her from her home. She watches them place an object resembling a human body in the trunk of their vehicle. She calls Sergeant Wade and asks him to investigate the backgrounds of her neighbors. The neighbors decide to break into their house and attack them, but it’s obvious they had no idea what they were dealing with.

Miraculously, Harper kills the intruder and delivers at the same time. I understand that this sequence was meant to showcase her badass nature, but it was so absurd that it actually made me laugh.

The Episode Recap

The choice to be honest with each other, with themselves, and with their relationships is something Lucy and Bradford have to make. This back and forth is getting pretty ugly. If this uncertainty continues, Chris and Ashley will suffer damage.

But I’m glad Nolan works as a training officer. He fought so hard for this for so long.

Wesley does a good job of trying to improve the system from within, but not every situation warrants a warning. I think he’s crazy. And I hope he finds the necessary balance quickly.

Also, I really hope we get to see James and Harper this season as they make a cute couple.

Summary of The Rookie’s Season 5 Episode 2

When Nolan and Thorsen go to a charity call, they find that a police officer has apparently killed himself. The police officer was killed according to a brief preliminary investigation. When Lopez and Bradford take the case, the evidence points to a corrupt police gang. On the other hand, Harper and James move into their new house and prepare for a home birth while she is about to give birth. After their last encounter, Harper is fed up with giving birth in a hospital.

You have a plan and the hospital is only four minutes away if something goes wrong. James thinks he has everything under control, but when Harper takes an interest in their obnoxious new neighbors, James is in for a big surprise. The new neighbors are not the kind who uphold the law. When they started playing loud music, Harper was forced to engage them in conversation.

Guns followed, but when she contacted the police, Smitty appeared. As long as his job was secure, Smitty, the lazy cop that he is, seems to have believed the neighbors when they claimed to see Dirt Harry. Harper continues to watch her from her home because she doesn’t buy her ridiculous justification. She watches as they place what appears to be a human body in the trunk of their vehicle.

He calls Sergeant Wade and asks him to check his neighbors’ criminal records. The neighbors decide to raid their home and attack them, but it’s clear they have no idea who they’re dealing with. Miraculously, Harper kills the intruder while giving birth to a child. While I’m aware that this sequence was intended to demonstrate her toughness, it was absurd enough to be humorous.
