Jameela Jamil hits the Karl Lagerfeld theme from the 2023 Met Gala.
Jameela Jamil hasn’t held back when it comes to the Met Gala.
Last week’s theme for the 2023 event was the unveiled “Karl Lagerfeld: Beauty Line,” in honor of Chanel’s deceased creative director who passed away in 2019 – and while many fashion fans were excited about the announcement, “Good Place Star was not one of the them.
Jamila, 36 years old, I took on Instagram Sunday to express your aversion to the upcoming gala by sharing your thoughts in a long post that featured a photo of Lagerfeld with the word “No” underneath.
“This man … he was indeed extremely talented, but he used his platform in such a clearly hateful way, mainly towards women, so many times and until the last years of his life, showing no remorse, no offer of atonement, no apology, no help to the groups, which he attacked… there was no excuse for his cruel outbursts, wrote actress She-Hulk.
“Swipe for receipts,” she continued, referring to the eight screenshots she had included in her post, highlighting various controversial quotes the fashion designer had created over the years before his death at the age of 85.
One example was a 2009 interview he gave to German magazine Focus saying that “no one wants to see curvy women” in relation to traditionally skinny models on his runway.
In the same interview, Lagerfeld – whose designs have been a staple of the Met Gala’s red carpet over the years – added that “You have fat mothers with bags of crisps sitting in front of the TV saying skinny models are ugly. The world of beautiful clothes is dreams and illusions. ”
Another screenshot shared by Jamil includes designer thoughts on the Me Too movement, who told a fashion magazine Numero in 2018 that “If you don’t want your pants off, don’t become a model!” and suggesting women to “enter the monastery.”
“Why do we celebrate IT when there are so many AWESOME designers who aren’t fanatical white men?” the actress wrote, naming the way Lagerfeld spoke of marginalized groups, especially “Muslim refugees”, as “gross.”
This is not the first time that the star of “Dobre Miejsce” has spoken publicly on a controversial topic; defended Meghan Markle against accusations of bullying, and in March criticized Kim Kardashian for her viral comments that “nobody wants to work now.”
Regarding the Met, Jamil concluded her post by saying, “Sorry but no. This is not the 90’s. We didn’t fight it all just to throw it all away because some white guy made nice clothes for skinny favorites… come on.
