Cheryl Burke doesn’t always give up her dog Ysabella without a fight. Although her divorce from Matthew Lawrence was finalized, custody of the dog they shared had to be decided. On his iHeart podcast, Burke within the Game, the 38-year-old Dancing with the Stars veteran opened up on Sunday’s episode about his split with Lawrence, 42.

After recalling that she learned her divorce had been finalized at the highest quality night of DWTS, Burke said, “However, it’s not over yet because we probably have to go to the trial — well, we’re going to visit the trial, except for [Lawrence] everything surprising calls it. That will happen in January. However, I was definitely hurt by the whole state of affairs.”

The two will continue arguing over the ownership of their dog Ysabella. “That’s my dog. Ysabella is my daughter; I’m a dog mom, and that’s all.

I can’t believe my existence — I imply, I might want to simply cry properly now. But I can’t believe in my life without him,” said Burke.

In an assertion to PEOPLE, Burke’s attorney Scott Klopert said, “The company does not comment on pending litigation.”

A legal professional for Lawrence could not immediately be reached by PEOPLE for comment.

During the episode, Burke also talked about the love she sees between her present day dance associate, Good Morning America weatherman Sam Champion, and her husband, Rubem Robierb. “Many love [between them], nothing is expected from both aspects. And I just want so as to, hopefully in the future, find someone like that,” she shared.

He persevered, “This is one of those quick but long adventures. To be honest, I’m almost more awake during the season, meaning I’m more present than I thought I was. I seek to give up on the good, the disgusting, and the unsightly. Honestly, it’s scary, but it’s started, and I’m officially divorced.”

In September, Burke and Lawrence reached an agreement to split their two homes equally, with each party keeping one of their homes.

Documents obtained by PEOPLE on Sept. 14 is also unique in that no spousal guide was requested through either celebration because the couple agreed to uphold their premarital settlement.

Burke filed for divorce from Lawrence in February, listing January 7 as the official separation date. The submission cited irreconcilable differences as the motive for the cut.

Further communication became necessary to determine whether Burke or Lawrence would keep their dog Ysabella, according to files obtained through the use of people.
