Daniel Pinnock didn’t say “Boo!” When Ghosts creators Joe Port and Joe Wiseman asked if they could use her real body positivity journey for season two.

The actress, who plays deceased 1920s jazz singer Alberta on the CBS comedy, said that when two showrunners approached her about whether she was comfortable exploring the storyline in the new season, she said, “Absolutely.”

The October 6 episode follows Alberta coming to terms with the harsh truth: she betrayed her rival, Clara, in order to advance her career. Although it went against everything she stood for as a flamboyant flapper, Alberta admits that reaching out to Clara was the only way she, a plus-size performer, could get a chance to shine.

However, Danielle did more than portray this vulnerable story. As Danielle detailed, Alberta’s monologue, where she declares that she should be the “loudest fan” herself, came from a conversation she had with the showrunners.

“We talked a lot about that scene,” she recalled. “They asked, ‘What gives Alberta her confidence? And at this moment, we want to see her vulnerable.” And I said to them, “For me personally, if I don’t ride or die for myself, no one else can.”
