What happens at the end of high water? Will Clara survive? When does the next season start?

A Polish political drama series called High Water (Wielka woda) was recently made available on Netflix. The real events of the Millennium Flood, which took place in areas of Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany in 1997, served as the basis for this fictional work. Directed by Jan Holoubek and Bartłomiej Ignaciuk. In addition to Anna Kpiska, who serves as producer and was the one who came up with the idea for the series in the first place, Kasper Bajon and Kinga Krzemiska are also contributing authors.

This is the first time the Flood story has been adapted for the big screen. It shows how scientists and local government officials had to make decisions that could mean the difference between life and death in July 1997 when a devastating tidal wave threatened the city of Wrocaw in Poland. Jakub Marczak, an aspiring politician, runs the city council and recruits Jamina Tremer, a female hydrologist from a rough background, to help save the city at any cost.

At the same time, Andrzej Rbacz goes back to his birthplace, a small town near Wrocaw. There, he unexpectedly becomes the leader of the local population who revolt against the disaster. Due to the limited time available, the authorities are forced to make a difficult choice that will change not only the lives of the main characters, but also the history of the entire region and the people who have lived there.

As the series progressed, we saw the residents of Kty resist the decision to flood the city, which ultimately resulted in the water level rising and the entire city being destroyed. When the river overflows and the hospital basement is flooded, the medical team makes an effort to evacuate the patients as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, due to the precarious condition of Andrzej Rbacz’s father, they are unable to save his life during the evacuation process.

While this is going on, Andrzej is still present at the demonstration with his son. His son has no idea how his father is doing and even puts his own life in danger. It could be seen that Klara was being dragged away by the swelling water current, and with Marczak’s concern for Klara’s safety, he races across town to find her. Tremer, on the other hand, seeks help from an old friend named Half Boot to help her mother.

She makes a purchase from her boyfriend’s drug dealer and injects the narcotics to her mother. Once unconscious, Half Boot and his buddies help move the mother to their upstairs neighbor’s house by crane, after which she is placed in their neighbor’s care. After Andrzej comes home and listens to the voicemails left for him by the hospital, he immediately goes to the facility by boat, but encounters resistance from the citizens of the city because they recognize him from the news.

As they made their way to the hospital, he came to realize that his decision to protect the village had resulted in tragedy for the people living in the metropolis. At the hospital, he runs into Jakub Marczak, who was also there looking for Klara and heard about a dead girl wearing a hoodie with a skull patch from the local news. He tells him about the girl found in a morgue. He followed them there despite his wounded heart, only to discover that it was another woman wearing the sweatshirt.

After observing several deceased bodies in the morgue, Andrzej decides to transport his deceased father’s body to their hometown and hold the funeral there. Jamina was also about to go out to look for her daughter when she also heard about her death on the news and went back to the drug route again. Jamina planned to look for her daughter. But Half-Boot prevents her from injecting and instead tells her a story about a young woman hanging out in the basement.

When Jamina finally gives in to her anger and walks downstairs, she’s relieved that Klara is waiting for her at the bottom. Then they left together for her father’s workplace so they could give him an update on where she was. During the journey, Klara tries to find out from her whether she is indeed her mother, but does not get a clear answer from her. Finally they track each other down at their workplace.

After the floods killed nearly everyone, Ja’mina wants to apologize by being honest with Klara about what happened. She even goes so far as to promise her mother that she will never go missing again, even taking her mother’s granddaughter to meet her.

On a political level, rescue services from different countries came to Poland to help during the crisis. They supplied water, food and medicine to the people trapped in their homes during the crisis. They played a vital role in rescuing those trapped on the streets during the disaster, as well as those who were in other areas.

Will there be a second season of high water?

In the end, some of the individuals responsible for the improper management of the situation were called to testify, but it appears that the majority of them were released without due punishment. Even Andrzej was arrested for throwing rocks at the military helicopter, though he appears to have been released after a short detention. During their stay in court, Marczak and Jasmina have a hearty farewell conversation, in which she tells him that she is pregnant.

Bearing in mind that the dramatized series is based on actual events and the fact that it is a limited series, the chances of a subsequent season are relatively slim. Since the concept as a whole revolves around the Flood and not the main character, there is not much room for additional research on this topic. Netflix or its producers have not released any information about a possible extension of the contract.
