Kevin and Laurie Lane, who own their own business, appeared on the third episode of season 14 of Shark Tank to talk about their product called Create A Castle. After earning an associate’s degree in fine arts from Green Mountain College, Kevin Lane continued his education to earn a bachelor’s degree in the same field from Western Connecticut State University. Before assuming his current position as Manager of Information Architecture and Web Design at LifeCare in 2000, he held positions as a website designer and design director for a number of different companies between 1997 and 2000. He founded his own online production and design business, Code Hounds LLC, in 2010 and is based in New Milford, Connecticut. In addition to his work there to date, he co-founded Create A Castle, LLC with Laurie Lane in June 2017.
On the other hand, Laurie earned her Bachelor of Arts in Retail Management from the University of Connecticut in 1991 and after graduating from that institution worked as a store manager for The Gap. She began working for The Walt Disney Company in 1993 as a district manager. In June 2010, she began her new role as Account Manager at Code Hounds LLC, the company owned by her husband Kevin Lane. In addition to being a co-owner of Create A Castle, LLC, Laurie also works as an independent vacation planner in addition to her current role as the company’s Account Manager.
Kevin Lane claimed that while vacationing in Laguna Beach, California, he came across a father and son team working together to build sand castles on the beach. Although it initially seemed like the two were having a great time together, it wasn’t long before they started to get angry as the lock continued to fall. Kevin has always had a strong interest in castles and this, combined with his natural inclination as a web developer to find solutions to challenges, led him to put a lot of mental effort into formulating an answer. Create A Castle was the result of him and his wife Laurie finally putting their heads together and coming up with the idea.
Create A Castle offers a comprehensive castle building kit that makes the process not only fun but easy and accurate. Casts, which are very durable and can be disassembled along their hinge, are supplied in the Create A Castle kit rather than the more traditional bucket or box that would have been used for construction.
