Anthony Rapp explained why he accused Kevin Spacey of inappropriate behavior

The Rent the actor testified during the October 11 Kevin Spaceyin the sexual misconduct case, where he pinpointed the reason why he decided to press charges against the actor, for NBC News.

Back in 2017, Rapp accused Spacey of sexually inappropriate behavior with him when Rapp was 14 years old. During the 2022 trial, Rapp’s attorney said the actor was moved to prove the allegations to BuzzFeed News reporter after Rapp received an article where Lupita Nyong’o brought charges of sexual harassment Harvey Weinstein. Harvey denies all allegations of misconduct.

However, Spacey’s lawyers showed a screenshot of a text conversation between Rapp and a BuzzFeed News reporter who, according to NBC News, allegedly discovered that Rapp had made the allegation on Oct. 11, 2017, eight days before the Oct. 19, 2017 story about Nyong’o and Weinstein.

According to NBC News, Rapp wrote in the text message thread, “I want to vent about someone else very powerful in the industry.”
