Murder of James Langley

How did James Langley die?

Mary Ann Langley was the wife of James Langley and the couple had a home in Norwalk, Connecticut at 126 Woodward Avenue. The city is located in the state of Connecticut. On December 14, 2006, the Langleys’ neighbors called the Norwalk Police Department’s 911 hotline to report a case of individual burns. The incident happened at the Langleys’ home. Officers arrived at the scene around 5:00 a.m. and saw a strange sight upon arrival.

When investigators saw James attempting to drive his car erratically in the driveway, they approached the moving vehicle as soon as they made the discovery. James immediately told authorities he was badly burned and needed urgent medical attention after seeing her. When police arrived at the property they found no evidence of a fire at the time, so they asked where James had been burned.

Who Killed James Langley?

After ensuring that James Langley was taken to hospital in time and that his burns were tended to, police officers made the decision to investigate the cause of the emergency burns and to search the site thoroughly. They went into the backyard of the Langleys’ home and found Mary there. After receiving their signed agreement, the police entered the apartment through the back door to conduct an investigation. Upon entering, they noticed a strong odor of an accelerant that was later determined to be gasoline. They also discovered a single used match, a book of matches near the kitchen sink, and a charred carpet in one of the home’s bedrooms.

After ensuring crime scene safety, the detectives went to speak with Mary, who agreed to answer a few questions about what she knew about the cause of her husband’s death and the injuries that ultimately led to his death. She admitted that she and her husband were the only people at home at the time of the tragedy; Still, she denied having any commitments or information as to how the event took place. However, the detectives noticed significant inconsistencies and contradictions in their statements.

She had originally stated that she and James only had sporadic marital problems, but she later contradicted this statement, claiming that she faced such horrible behavior from James that she even wanted to stab him. This statement was made in response to the fact that she originally stated that she and James only had sporadic marital problems. When Mary became aware of James’ extramarital affair, which he had been conducting since September 2004, she too developed a healthy suspicion. She claimed that she and James never got into a fight over the affair, but her neighbors and other relatives refuted her claim. She said they never argued about the affair.

However, the testimony of Mary’s niece and nephews Sheila Polite and Rodney Polite, who were also her close neighbors, was the most damning piece of evidence that could be used against her. Startled by screams from the Langley in the early hours of December 14, 2006, they rushed there to find Mary sobbing and begging for help. They found James in the kitchen patting his stomach with a damp towel as they entered the house. James was visibly distraught.

Rodney noticed that part of James’ stomach skin seemed to be melting and sagging, and the whole house smelled strongly of gasoline. He also noticed that James’ stomach appeared to be bloated. James reportedly told them, while grinding his teeth and wincing in excruciating pain, that when he woke up he realized he was on fire. Rodney claimed that he was present when James made the following statement: “I know what happened. Ann set me on fire.” Sheila claimed she heard James say that “he was sleeping and watching [Mary pour gasoline or something on him” and that “[he] looked [Mary] Pour the liquid over it and light it up.” Sheila claimed she heard James say those things.
