Selma Blair gracefully pulled out of Monday night’s “Dancing With the Stars” due to persistent health problems.

The star of “Cruel Intenttions” and her professional partner, Sasha Farber, performed their final dance together at Most Memorable Year, a tear-filled waltz to “What The World Needs Now Is Love” by Andry Day. The system was designed to mirror 2018 for Blair, when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) after years of the disease.

“It was a really emotional night for me,” said 50-year-old Blair Page Six after the show. “Because it was filled with so much love for me, and my love for everyone really came back here.”

When asked what she had learned about herself during her performance at a dance competition, the “Legally Blonde” star replied that in many respects she exceeded her own expectations.

“I’ve learned that I can do things that I didn’t even think I wanted to do,” she explained. “I learned it with passion and [hope] that you can feel as beautiful as the people you watch. That it could be inspiring.

She continued: “For me, there is never despair in comparison with a crowd like this, with these celebrities and these professionals. I am very proud of this show and this production for welcoming some of us [like Daniel Durant, who is deaf] where it is just an additional challenge. But look at the way we just prove ourselves in different ways. “

Farber, 38, also referred to his departure, wondering how inspiring it was to connect with such an “icon” this season.

“There aren’t enough words to say how proud I am,” he told reporters Monday night. “She is a real inspiration. Not only has she inspired me, but so many people around the world… there’s nothing this lady can’t do.

According National Society for Multiple SclerosisMultiple sclerosis is “a disease that affects the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves that make up the central nervous system and control everything we do.” Symptoms include memory and speech problems, pain, fatigue, and difficulty walking.

Blair explained in the taped interview pack that aired prior to her performance on Monday night that she had to leave the contest due to problems arising from her condition.

“I had an MRI and the results came back and it all adds up to not being able to continue the competition. I was pushing as far as I could, Blair told Farber. “If you are chronic, you have special considerations and my body has suffered a blow. This is way too much for the safety of my bones. I can do extensive damage which I obviously don’t want.

She further explained, “I really want to have one last beautiful dance with you and take a bow. So it’s a dance for everyone who has tried and hoped they could do more, but also the power to realize it’s time to leave. I am so grateful to be able to do one last gentle dance.

In September, Blair told Page Six she had said “yes” to Season 31 of DWTS just “four or five days” before the full cast was revealed on Good Morning America. While she herself was “terrified” by the dance rehearsal, she told us that she also needed to convince her band to go along with the idea.

“There was horror and nerves because I have no experience with step dancing. I can pose as a dancer for maybe two seconds, she said then.

“But when I decided and convinced my team that I could do it, it wouldn’t be too dangerous for me that I could do this, [it was OK]. We do those things in which we want to enjoy. And then I’m in it all. “

Dancing With the Stars returns Tuesday to Prom Night at 8:00 PM EST, 5:00 PM PT on Disney +.
