Meghan Markle took a lot of “–t” from the media: Jameela Jamil
Jameela Jamil praised Meghan Markle’s ability to receive a daily brutal amount of criticism from the public and the media.
“It’s just that you take an unfathomable amount of shit, Meghan. I can’t believe it,” Jamil Markle said on Tuesday’s episode of the Duchess of Sussex’s Spotify “Archetypes” podcast.
The Good Place actress continued: “I was so outraged. With the distortion of this very normal, very nice, very civilized woman of this demonization. It just shows how scared they are of you.”
Jamil, 36, shared how much it pains her to see Markle, 41, constantly being called out, noting that this only proves that women hold to double standards at all.
“I’m sure maybe you can’t stop it or something, but your treatment and I’m sorry you had to endure it has re-emphasized to us that there is intense rudeness and bigotry and misogyny in our media,” Jamil said.
But the body image activist remained optimistic, saying: “I think, hope and feel faith that this tide is changing because so many of us are struggling.”
Markle thanked Jamil for “retaliation”.
Jamil also praised the “Sweet” relationship of Markle with Prince Harry and praised Prince Sussex for being always standing with his wife, as her own partner, James Blake, does.
“[James] he’s just an amazing person, an amazing friend, and I don’t think I could live without him,” Jamil said, referring to her own criticism she receives from the audience. “I know you have a very similar dynamic with Harry. It’s a really sweet dynamic between you two.”
Jamil added: “It was very nice to see you have this in your home.”
Harry, 38, has been a loyal supporter of Markle in the face of her mental health issues after marrying the royal family in 2018. He and Markle infirmly decided to give up royal duties in 2020 and move to California with two children – Archie, 3 years old and Lilibet, 1.
Meanwhile, Jamil, an outspoken feminist activist, faced her own public criticism over the years.
In particular, she received backlash after being named as a judge on HBO Max’s competition show “Legendary”. The queer community called for her to step down, noting that the show’s concept was created and fought for the LGBTQIA+ community. Jamil quickly responded by revealing himself as a freak.
Jamil complimented Blake, with whom she has been in a relationship since 2015, for being a “source of strength and consolation” for her during her own fights with the audience.
The “She-Hulk” actress also shared how Blake protects her and tells her when to put her phone down.
“It’s someone who can take my phone because he’s five foot seven, I can’t reach him when he’s holding it,” she joked. “You know, if I want to take my phone, it’s there.
