While Pompeo will no longer be a cast member of the award-winning series, she has promised that she will continue to be “part of the show” in other ways.

“I’m the executive producer. I spent two decades of my career [Grey’s Anatomy] it’s my heart and soul. I’ll never really leave as long as [it’s] on air,” Deadline said in September.

While the actress has “enormous gratitude” for her time on the show, she recently defended former co-star Katherine Heigl for speaking out against the show’s somewhat problematic culture.

Heigl was Hollywood’s blacklist after she left the show in 2010 after she complained about the long hours on set – which Pompeo did the same a decade later.
