Ticketmaster does not want anybad bloodwith Taylor Swift and her fans.
Following disastrous ticket sales for the “Eras Tour”, the company issued an official apology to the singer as well as her legions of fans known as the Swifties on Friday.
“We want to apologize to Taylor and all her fans – especially those who had a terrible experience trying to purchase tickets. We feel we owe it to everyone to share information that will help explain what happened.” the company wrote on Twitteralong with a link to an extensive description of how fans were cut off from buying tickets.
On Thursday, the Swifties were furious to discover they had been excluded from general sales of the singer’s long-awaited “Anti-Hero” tour.
“Due to extremely high demands on ticketing systems and not enough tickets remaining to meet that demand, tomorrow’s Taylor Swift Public Sale | The Eras Tour has been cancelled,” Ticketmaster tweeted without further explanation.
Swift spoke out about the cancellation, calling it “exciting” to watch the development.
“Okay. It goes without saying that I am very protective of my fans. We’ve been doing this together for decades and I’ve brought so many elements of my career home over the years,” she began in a statement posted via Instagram Stories.
“I SPECIFICALLY did this to improve the quality of my fans’ experience, doing it myself with my team who care about my fans as much as I do. It’s really hard for me to trust an outside party for these relationships and allegiances, and it’s excruciating for me to see mistakes happen with no way back.”
Ticketmaster blames the problems on extremely high demand for tickets coupled with attempts to weed out bots from real people.
Despite a lengthy mea culpa, the company noted that “more than 2 million Taylor Swift tickets have been sold on Ticketmaster | The Eras Tour November 15 – most tickets sold for an artist in one day.
