All event guests receive a complimentary glass of schnapps and a drinks voucher upon entry to the show, starring Eddie Redmayne and Gayle Rankin. The action of the series takes place in a seedy club in Weimar-era Germany, which is taken over by the Nazis.
Champagne and cocktails are also served during the performance for those who paid for the expensive tables.
“The lady next to me was incredibly drunk, had to get up several times to pee during the show, was clinking her ice cubes (ma’am, she’s out),” one person complained in a Reddit thread about the show.
IN another conversation on Redditpeople have complained about getting into shouting matches when asking unruly customers to tone it down.
“They were obviously drunk and over-served,” one Redditor said of the rowdy couple. “She cackled, talked, sang, burped and tried to communicate with the actors. . . When I finally asked her to be quiet, she loudly said, “Fuck you!”
When the person’s partner went to alert management, the alleged bloto woman “again said, ‘Fuck you!’ Then she gave me her two middle fingers and held them in place.”
The person said security told him they were “monitoring” the situation.
Another person claims she was near a “drunk woman in the front row who almost got kicked out for loudly blowing kisses to Bebe” [Neuwirth] every time she was on stage.” They added that the patron “received a stern talk from security during intermission, after which he appeared disoriented and sleepy throughout Act II.”
This person claims that when her husband confronted the woman and her partner, an argument broke out between them.
“He only got involved in the argument when the man started calling me ‘f-you’ after I supported another lady who told them she was being rude when the lights came on,” they claim. The attendee added that, “We still managed to have a good time, but we definitely ruined the evening.”
Another person commented: “I was there last week and there was a single person next to us who kept asking me and my wife what was going on. People are definitely being overserved.”
Several people noticed that the problem was not unique to “Cabaret” and almost everyone liked the show. One commenter said: “The show is fantastic and worth braving the drunk mannequins.”
Last month at Cabaret, a woman was thrown out after coming on stage during the song “Two Ladies” and grabbing Redmayne.
Star he told The Hollywood Reporter. about the incident: “I was so moved by this scene that I actually don’t remember it. There was definitely someone who was a little too eager and clapped along to “Mein Herr” and sang a little too loud. We love a vocal and passionate audience, but there is a limit.”
Many people also complained about their cell phones going off, with one person joking, “Where’s Patti Lupone when you need her?” referencing a moment from 2015 when the legendary Tony winner grabbed a viewer’s phone during another show, “Shows for Days.”
Another fan suggested: “Think of it as part of the experience. If they had cell phones in Weimar, Germany, they would also call during the performance. And everyone would be drunk too. This is immersive theater!”
A representative of “Cabaret” refused to comment.
This is not the first time there has been confusion around the production of “Cabaret”.
During the 2014 revival, directed by Sam Mendes – and starring Michelle Williams and Alan Cumming – “Transformers” star Shia LaBeouf was in the audience, who infamously stuck in the break for disorderly conduct, including lighting a cigarette and shouting at actors.
