Andy Cohen reacts to John Mayer’s letter regarding dating questions

The Bravo executive praised his pal’s recent scathing response to the Hollywood Reporter’s questions about the nature of their friendship.

“This should now put an end to us asking, ‘What are you talking about?’ Explain it” – Cohen, 55, he said on Friday’s episode of the “Daddy Diaries” podcast..

“A gay man asking about his friendship with a straight guy is degrading.[…]It assumes that a gay person can’t be friends with a heterosexual person if they don’t have sex,” he explained.

The “Watch What Happens Live” host said he “cheered” as he read Mayer’s letter to journalist Maer Roshan last week he praised the 46-year-old “Gravity” singer for “caring enough about keeping this trope lazy and stupid that [he] would have written it.”

Cohen gushed: “What an ally. I love that he did it and I admire him for wanting to publish it.”

The Emmy winner continued, “Thank you, John, for mentioning this in the video. I thought it was really, really cool.”

Cohen and Mayer have been friends for years, and with Roshan asking about “intense speculation” talking about their relationship during an interview with the “Real Housewives” producer for a profile published on May 8.

The Grammy Award winner reacted sharply to Roshan’s remark that “people seem to doubt whether a straight rock star can have a close, platonic relationship with a gay TV personality.”

In his May 10 letter to the editor, he addressed this “apparent… assumption,” noting that it “turns the concept of being gay into a two-dimensional, ignorant one.”

Mayer, who described himself as a fan of “intelligent discourse,” concluded: “Reinforcing the idea that every homosexual/heterosexual relationship requires a stipulation that it is not a sexual relationship strips the dignity of every person involved.”

Roshan exclusively told Page Six that while he and the musician “had a nice email exchange” after the letter, he stood by his questions.

Mayer and Cohen first sparked speculation in June 2023 when they announced on the Bravolebrity’s “The Howard Stern Show” that they were “in love.”

But he swore on the lives of his son, Benjamin, 5, and daughter Lucy, 2, that there was “nothing sexual” in their relationship.

In his Hollywood Reporter profile, Cohen said: “Because we are so attached to each other, people don’t know what box to put it in. They assume we’re sleeping together, which we definitely aren’t.”
