The eldest daughter of the late jockey Lester Piggott is Maureen Haggas. She is the wife of Newmarket coach and Derby champion William Haggas.

In 1960, Lester married Susan Armstrong, Maureen’s mother. Tracy, Maureen’s younger sister who works for RTE in Ireland, and Jamie, their stepbrother, complete the family. Jamie was born while Lester was dating his helper, Anna Ludlow.

Maureen’s father, Lester, had a career spanning nearly 48 years as the Queen’s favorite jockey. He started horse racing when he was only 12 years old and won his first race that year.

Lester died in a hospital in Switzerland and William Haggas, his son-in-law, announced his passing. While he was hospitalized, Maureen and William cared for him.

Lester’s wife, William, said little about his health, but revealed that he battled the disease and died.

Maureen shattered two bones in her neck after falling into a gallop after her horse was startled by a dog, following her father’s death to the Haggas family.

William Haggas, a trainer at Newmarket, was born on August 23, 1960. He is 61 years old and was born in Skipton, England. Although Maureen, his wife, has not given a date of birth, she also appears to be in her late fifties.

It seems that there is not much age difference between the couple as they got married in 1989. Sam and Mary-Anne are the two children of William and Maureen. Sam works as a blood cop and, like his father, is active in racing.

Haggas won the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Australia’s Randwick Racetrack in 2020 and 2021, making him one of Her Majesty The Queen’s most reliable jockeys. His hometown is Skiptop, a community outside the Yorkshire Dales.

A wealthy textile manufacturer and contributor to the development of the legendary Harris Tweed was Haggas’ father, Brian. William excelled academically while attending the famous Harrow Public School.

Family members were shocked by his untimely passing, especially Maureen, who cared for him. On the other hand, Maureen just fractured two vertebrae in her neck and is currently wearing a collar to help her recover.
