American Idol judges react to Willie Spence’s death at 23


The American Idol community is in mourning.

Judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Ritchie paid tribute to season 19 runner-up Willie Spence, who tragically died in a car accident.

McPhee, 38, also shared a video of Spence singing a Christian song in a car, just before his fatal accident.

In honor of his home state, Spence sang “Georgia on My Mind” during the Season 19 Finale, as well as “A Change is Gonna Come” and “Stand Up”.

Although Perry, Ritchie and Bryan, 46, were touched by his performances, Spence finished second and Chayce Beckham became an American idol.

Shortly after the season airing, Spence released his debut single “Never Be Alone” and was due to perform in London next month.
