Early life and career as a player
Carter began life in Flowery Branch, Georgia. She attended Buford High School in Georgia, where she played basketball under famed coach Gene Durden, who was also her teacher for the class where she was responsible for creating multimedia presentations. She led the Lady Wolves to three consecutive Class 2A state championships (2009–2011) and averaged 13 points per game over those years, making her one of the key contributors to their success. Due to her injuries, she was unable to play during her senior year. Despite this, she was ranked #21 nationally by espnW.com for the Class of 2012, and she accepted a scholarship to play for the University of Tennessee women’s basketball team.
Before joining the Lady Vols, she was a huge fan of the team and her coach, Pat Summitt. She was one of the last players to sign with Summitt. She was one of the last players to sign.
