A man in Liverpool, England, encountered an odd circumstance when he was denied admittance into a pub because he was “too old.” Being turned away from a pub for being too young is usual. Anthony Severs made the choice to stop by Liverpool’s McCooley’s Irish Pub about 10 p.m. on July 25 in order to grab some shelter from the rain and have a pint while he was there.

The 76-year-old Severs was left “shell-shocked” when the bouncer told him he was “too old” to enter. He asserts that he has subsequently complained, but the bar has not yet shown regret, and as a result, he feels “discriminated against” because of his age.
The retired shipbuilder gave the following account of the peculiar circumstance: “I had just left The Grapes when it started to rain, and I was drenched. Because there were no buses (because to the ongoing Arriva strike) and I didn’t live far from town, I had to walk home. However, I decided to go into McCooley’s because it was pouring so I could dry off and get a drink.”
“I climbed the steps to enter, but the bouncer told me I couldn’t. She said that I was too old when I inquired why “stated Severs. “That is discrimination, I remarked. She then remained silent. I simply left because I was in shock.”
Anthony went on to say that he has a daughter and several grandchildren “What would you think of it? It didn’t really hit me until I started to leave. I questioned whether I was “too old.” I was startled because nothing similar to this had ever occurred in the 60+ years that I had been drinking in the neighborhood.”
People might chuckle if you’re told you’re too old, but Severs added, “It’s not on.” The grandfather was so baffled by the circumstance that he chose to discuss it with his daughter. He said he drinks on Mathew Street because he bumps into people he knows there. She advised him to file a grievance with McCooley’s. Severs, however, asserts that after doing so, he was told to contact the firm the club contracts with to supply security guards.
When Severs finally collected himself, he went to McCooley’s, where they informed him that the security company was to blame rather than them. I requested a personal apology because she excluded me individually.
McCooley’s has since made the following statement to LADbible in response to the incident: “As a bar and restaurant venue that specializes in live music and sporting events, we pride ourselves on creating a fun, vibrant, and all-inclusive environment at McCooley’s, and we are really saddened to hear that Mr. Severs has been left feeling upset, and we thank him for bringing this situation to our attention.”
“Sadly, Mr. Severs was turned away after leaving the Grapes, but it’s possible that there was some confusion that night rather than age being an issue. The majority of our consumers, particularly throughout the week, are elderly. He is undoubtedly welcome to return at any time “Then the statement went on. The external security agent from whom he requested a personal apology is no longer employed by the security firm that we use, but he has nonetheless gotten an apology in person from the head of that firm.
