Apple Watch Pro: rumours, news and estimated price, release date and specifications
Features of the Apple Watch Pro
According to Mark Gurman, we can expect a range of sports-related features.
A larger, shatterproof display
Improved metrics for hiking and swimming.
A larger battery to track workouts over time
A more substantial and difficult case
Since this watch is intended for extreme athletes, increased water resistance would be expected.
Other functions such as blood pressure monitoring and glucose measurements are likely to be included in the Apple Watch. While there are patents indicating Apple’s interest in the technology, there’s no indication it will happen this year.
What exactly can a wearable help with tracking?
Specifications and hardware of the Apple Watch Pro
So how big will Apple’s Pro smartwatch be? Gurman expects a case size of 46-47mm, which will offer slightly more screen real estate than the Series 7’s 45mm, most likely for fitness metrics. The screen resolution will be around 410 x 502 pixels (compared to 396 x 484 pixels on the 45mm Series 7) and will have the same overall sharpness as existing Apple Watch models.
Here’s how this 2-inch Apple Watch Pro could compare to previous Apple Watch models with a screen size of almost 50mm:
38mm, 42mm original
40mm and 44mm in Series 4
41mm and 45mm in Series 7
Another feature that sets the Pro Apple Watch apart from the regular series is the materials it’s made of. The Apple Watch is currently available in aluminum, stainless steel and titanium; The Apple Watch Pro is said to be made from a “premium non-aluminum metal material,” which Gurman believes will be titanium.
Gurman speculates that the larger battery “could last for several days on a single charge via the new sleep mode,” according to 9to5Mac. This new power saving mode, which likely works by pausing background activity and lowering the brightness, may be limited to Apple Watch models released in September.
The Series 8 is said to have the same body temperature sensor and S8 chip as this watch. The temperature reader doesn’t give a number like a traditional thermometer, but instead lets you know if your body temperature is elevated and if you should check it. And the S8 processor is expected to perform similarly to the S7 and S6 chips in the Apple Watch Series 7 and 6 (i.e. don’t expect significant performance improvements).
Another tidbit from Gurman is that this updated watch will have LTE, unlike Samsung’s 2022 smartwatch, which will only have Bluetooth.
According to the same source, this watch will support older bands, but they won’t fit as well due to the size of the watch.
Apple Watch Pro price rumors
This Apple Watch, like other Apple products nicknamed the Pro, will pack pro-level features at a higher price point.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro was announced in August and has a starting price of $370. But Apple probably won’t match that as the Apple Watch Series 8 is expected to start at $399 and this is a larger watch with higher quality materials.
Our best guess? This watch will cost you more than $900. Gurman confirms that estimate, which is reasonable considering the 45mm Apple Watch Edition is priced at over $800.
