Disney+ Hotstar’s Babli Bouncer stars Tamannaah Bhatia, Saurabh Shukla, Supriya Shukla, Sahil Vaid, Abhishek Bajaj and Priyam Saha. Madhur Bhandarkar is the director of the film and is responsible for writing the story along with Amit Joshi and Aradhana Debnath. Himman Dhamija is in charge of the camera and Manish Pradhan was the editor on this project. Tanishk Bagchi and Karan Malhotra were responsible for composing the soundtrack.
Both Star Studios and Junglee Pictures are producing the film. The total production time is 117 minutes. The film’s plot is described in the synopsis as follows: “A first of her kind for her community, Babli takes a job as a bouncer in order to win over the love of her life, leading to a sequence of hilarious and heartwarming incidents.”
Babli Bouncer Movie Review contains some spoilers
In Madhur Bhandarkar’s novel Babli Bouncer, we meet Babli who lives in a small town on the outskirts of Delhi. The report is narrated by Vijay Raaz, who explains that the men of this village are often muscular individuals who find employment as bouncers in Delhi’s nightclubs. We meet Babli, the only woman in the hamlet who is a bodybuilder, and watch her work toward her goal of becoming a bouncer.
On paper, the idea of a rural young woman working as a bouncer at a nightclub in Delhi sounds like an extremely empowering idea. On the other hand, the love story portrayed on TV turned out to be contrived and unemotional. The most important factor in Babli’s decision to become a bouncer was a man. Yes, when we first meet her, she is a woman who has no career goals other than getting married and starting a family.
When Babli falls in love with Viraj, her teacher’s son, she develops an ambitious streak (Abhishek Bajaj). With Viraj staying in Delhi, Babli decides to work in Delhi. She finds herself in a fortunate position when she gets a job as a bouncer in a bar in Delhi. It’s not Babli’s ambition that drives the plot; rather it is their longing for a romantic relationship. It just doesn’t make sense.
Babli doesn’t take her job seriously at all. The challenges a bouncer faces in a traditionally male-dominated field are never addressed in the narrative. In most underdog stories, the protagonist faces significant obstacles that put them to the test. In the story narrated by Bhandarkar, Babli faces her greatest obstacle in the form of the young man whom she believes to be her true love.
The score for Babli is also a miss. Babli makes the decision to change her behavior for the “better” after things don’t go according to her plan. It’s absurd that a woman who seems so powerful, smart, and wild should be so influenced by a boy she barely knows that she would change because of him. We don’t get the impression that Babli is particularly enthusiastic about her job as a bouncer. It worried me, especially considering the film’s title had the word “bouncer” in it. While there is a scene where she helps someone, it was only done so the story could have a happy ending.
Despite the fact that the film has significant flaws, there are certain scenes that will make you laugh or give you warm fuzz. The loving relationship Babli shares with her father, portrayed by Saurabh Shukla, warms the viewer’s heart. Tamannaah deserves credit for playing such an outlandish character as Babli is very entertaining thanks to her performance. At first I had a lot of trouble understanding the accent, but over time I got used to it more and more.
There are a few humorous sequences that Bhatia is in, and she gives an excellent performance in each of them. Her personality was known for being hilarious, infamous, and vibrant. However, the creators ruined her charm by constantly reminding us that she’s funny, burps loudly, and eats a lot. It completely undermined the character.
The breathtaking natural scenery of the village is well captured by Himman Dhamija’s camera, leaving us spellbound. The club moments are also very well captured, which gives us an impression of how incredibly colorful life in Delhi can be. Madhur has used a number of Bollywood songs including “Ek Main Aur Ek Tu”, “Marjawa” and others. Unfortunately, the film’s score does not evoke strong emotional responses from the audience.

Babli Bouncer Review: Final Thoughts
Tamannaah Bhatia’s vehicle, directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, generally has its standout moments. However, there is nothing new about the plot. We’ve seen better underdog stories where the heart and passion are directed in the right direction, like Gully Boy, Iqbal and Lagaan, among others. The fashion director made numerous attempts to make us laugh, and he occasionally succeeded. However, if the main heroine is motivated to achieve her goals around or because of a male protagonist, then the narrative does not uplift or empower women.
Babli Bouncer is now available to watch on Disney+ Hotstar.
