Bachelorette star Erich Schwer blown up for black face photo
Bachelorette star Erich Schwer is called to a recently revealed photo of his school yearbook, where she sees him with a black face.
The photo shows a 29-year-old real estate researcher wearing an afro wig and a colored shirt combined with skin covered in dark cosmetics.
The photo is accompanied by the following quote from Schwer: “It was swelling.”
The reaction of the Bachelor Nation to the offensive image was not very optimistic.
“At this point what? [contestant] there’s nothing that comes with being tired, ”one fan wrote on Twitter, confirming the myriad racist controversies that plagued the reality TV franchise long before Schwer.
Another person claimed to have more information about the situation where Schwer felt the black face was appropriate.
“I went through it. The event was a fundraiser called “Star Night” they do every year. I have no idea who Erich was supposed to be, ”they wrote.
“I didn’t see anyone else in a black face, but a group of students came as a Jamaican bobsled team, complete with caps and bobsleighs. Old even then.
Another person expressed disappointment with Schwer when he served as a peer leader at his New Jersey school.
“It’s ironic that he was a” peer leader “by setting a black-faced student example,” they wrote on Twitter. “Her”.
As fans feel disgusted by Schwer’s racially insensitive actions, one said they were “not surprised” when they found a photo of SantaCon in New York celebrating with a group of men wearing “Make America Great Again” hats.
“This photo with his” other family “wearing MAGA hats popped up a bit ago, so unfortunately I’m not surprised, they tweeted next to the screenshot of the photo.
Schwer took to Instagram on Thursday to apologize for the black face photo, the day after it began circulating on social media.
“I sincerely apologize for the callous picture of me in Blackface from my high school year that is circulating. What I thought then was a representation of my love for Jimi Hendrix, it was just ignorance. ” he wrote.
“I was naïve about the damaging implications of my actions for the black community and my loved ones, and will always regret my offensive and harmful behavior,” continued Schwer. “I am deeply ashamed of my actions and understand that my apologies are only the first step to taking responsibility.”
Page Six contacted ABC and Warner Bros., who produces the “Bachelor” series, for additional comment.
Schwer went a long way in the “Bachelorette” competition by Gabby Windey’s heart.
The couple got especially close after Schwer introduced 31-year-old Windey to his late father – who was battling terminal cancer during filming – on an emotional date in his hometown.
However, the trailers for the rest of the season suggest that he and Windey, 31, have run into a stumbling block to their romance due to fears he will get closer to another suitor during a fantasy apartment in Mexico.
The Bachelorette airs on Tuesdays at 8:00 PM EST on ABC.
