Ashley Reeves, 17, who was attacked by Shelton, 26, in April 2006, is shown as a real-life incident in Lifetime’s latest film, Left For Dead. Reeves was found in a heavily wooded park more than 30 hours after Shelton tried to strangle her with a belt and break her neck with his forearm, according to a CBS News report at the time.

He choked the woman again until it finally broke, thinking she had given up. He then left the woman insane for dead. She had been abandoned in the forest for 30 hours and sustained horrible injuries.

What happened to Sam Shelton?
Sam Shelton was sentenced to 20 years of life imprisonment. He had first been arrested as a young suspect, but after realizing that he was the most trusted person to speak to Reeves, detectives freed him.
When told to wait 12 hours, he revised her explanation several times before giving up. He eventually admitted that he had referred to Ashley and insulted her.
He led the police officers to where he had left the woman, although he had forgotten the exact location. Luckily, the police found the woman and took her to the hospital. They were arrested and Reeves found.
He was placed on house arrest for a year with the option to post bail while he prepared for the test. All year Sam made only one attempt to end his life. In 2007, he agreed to a plea deal.
