Bella Hadid seemingly removes Balenciaga post amid ‘BDSM’ backlash.
Bella Hadid distances herself from Balenciaga.
The high fashion brand has been recently under fire for her latest ad campaign featuring children holding stuffed animals that appear to be wearing slavery-inspired outfits.
One hawk-eyed guard he even pointed out that one image apparently contained an excerpt from a U.S. Supreme Court case that upheld part of the federal child pornography law.
In other campaign photos, celebrities including Bella Hadid and Nicole Kidman show off the latest adult fashion house designs – which the supermodel posted on her Instagram on Tuesday.
However, Hadid, 26, seemingly removed the image Wednesday amidst backlash.
Although she removed the latest campaign from her social media, fans were quick to show contempt for her association with the brand in earlier posts promoting the model’s recent Balenciaga/Adidas collaboration, leaving comments with the hashtag #cancelbalenciaga.
“I can’t believe these stars don’t care about kids at all! You work with a label that sexually abused children in their advertising campaigns! But as people spoke, they apologized [sic] …they wouldn’t do otherwise, and you puppets agree with all of this?!” one person commented.
“Please address the unethical aspects of this campaign, it’s a disgrace and you shouldn’t be associated with this crap,” another said.
Mark pulled out controversial photos from social media — and deleted every post from his Instagram in the face of an onslaught of negativity.
They later addressed the criticism in a statement that read: “We apologize for displaying disturbing documents in our campaign. We take this matter very seriously and are taking legal action against those responsible for creating the kit and incorporating unapproved items into our Spring 23 photo shoot. We strongly condemn child exploitation in any form. We stand for the safety and well-being of children.”
Photographer Gabriele Galimberti as well responded to hatedenying that he had any influence on the creative direction of the photo shoot.
“I am unable to comment [on] Balenciaga’s choices, but I must stress that I was in no way entitled to either the choice of products, or models, or combinations of them,” he wrote in part on Instagram.
Galimberti claimed he was tasked with lighting the prepared set and shooting in his “distinctive style”, but said that “the direction of the campaign and the choice of objects on display” were not his.
Hadid has yet to issue an official statement.
