Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Episode 1 Summary
People who monitor the movement of hollows in Soul Society’s research and development department have seen a significant increase in the rate at which hollows are being destroyed. It points to the potentially catastrophic possibility that the lines separating the living world and soul society would begin to merge within days. Squad 13 officers Ryunosuke and Shino have been assigned to keep an eye on the situation in Karakura Town, but they are unaware of this development.
The former seem tormented by the idea that they might have to fight Hollows there, but the latter handle the situation confidently and fearlessly. Unfortunately, his worst fears were quickly realized, and to make matters worse, Shino was KO’d by one of the opponents. Ryunosuke is also unable to defend himself and is about to be killed until Ichigo, Orihime, Sado, and Ishida not only easily defeat the Hollows, but also help the two recover from their wounds. Ryunosuke’s life is saved at this point.
Later, Ryunosuke and Shino wake up in Ichigo’s room; But just as they are about to begin discussing the incident that brought them together, a man unexpectedly enters the room through the window. Ichigo reacts quickly and sends him out of the dojo. Although he initially mistakes the other for an arrancar, he quickly finds out that he is dealing with a Quincy named Asguiaro Ebern.
During this time, Squad 11 conducts an investigation into the Rukon District and has discovered that its residents have disappeared without a trace. In the city of Karakura, Ebern keeps mocking Ichigo by demanding that he show his Bankai and use it against him. Ichigo eventually leaves the replacement Soul Reaper speechless with his amazing abilities, though the original Soul Reaper is convinced he can defeat him. Unfortunately, just as Ebern was ready to question him, he escaped.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Episode 1 End: What is the Wandenreich?
As the strange events unfold across Japan, Shigekuni Yamamoto-Genryuusai, the captain of the first division of Soul Society’s main military arm, sits in his office unaware of what is happening. Suddenly, six masked people appear where he is, said to have killed one of his men while he is preoccupied with his own thoughts. Claiming to be from the Wandenreich, they declare war on Soul Society, declaring that the latter would be wiped out in the coming days. Despite the fact that the masked men don’t provide much explanation, Wandenreich is actually a covert Quincy empire with plans to destroy the spirit realm.
After the Quincy were defeated by the Shinigami about a thousand years ago, they were forced to leave the human realm and start a new life elsewhere. They eventually found their way to the Seireitei, which they saw as a place that would provide a safer environment for their reorganization. With the Reishi in abundance, they set up their covert empire (Wandenreich) and waited to gather enough power to conquer the world while wiping out the Soul Society. Meanwhile, they could remain undetected. The Quincy have waited for generations to realize their twisted ambitions, and declaring war is the first step in achieving those goals.

Who leads six masked members of the Wandenreich to confront Shigekuni Yamamoto and declare war on Soul Society?
When the six unidentified entered Shigekuni Yamamoto-Genryuusai’s workplace, they were led by a man who took over the conversation and spoke for the entire group. In addition to poking fun at the captain’s relaxed attitude toward security measures, he warned Yamamoto that Soul Society would not survive more than five days. The masked leader continued talking to Yamamoto while in the process of murdering one of Yamamoto’s men right in front of him. He then said to Yamamoto that the people who make up Soul Society will meet the same end.
Although he makes no introductions to the captain, it eventually turns out that he is in fact an arrancar named Luders Friegen. Although he holds the Kaiser von Wandenreich in high esteem, he treats his compatriots condescendingly and gives the impression that he rises above them. Unfortunately, the consequences of his way of thinking become clear to him fairly quickly.
Who is the mysterious man cutting off Luders Friegen’s hand? Is he the Emperor of Wandenreich?
Asguiaro Ebern reunites with the other Wandenreich members after breaking free of Ichigo’s grasp and escaping. When Luders Friegen arrives there with some other masked people, he sees boars bowing and praises the deed as commendable. Ebern, on the other hand, points out that he would never prostrate in front of someone like him. Luder’s right arm is severed and falls to the ground before he can even realize what is happening.
As it turns out, Asguiaro Ebern is actually bowing to an angry guy seated on a throne. This man tells Luders that he despises the war and asks for his report on the latest developments of the situation. The mysterious man turns out to be none other than Yhwach, affectionately called the Quincy’s father by his subordinates. Although the episode ends there, not offering much clarity as to his identity, the strange man turns out to be Yhwach. He is the current Emperor of the Wandenreich as well as the son of the Soul King. He held both titles at the same time.
