Britney Spears Conservatorship Should Have Been Maintained: Sources

Multiple sources tell Page Six that Britney Spears should have been placed on conservatorship due to concerns about her mental health.

While the original arrangement, put in place with the help of her father, Jamie Spears, was undoubtedly harsh, the pop princess suffers from very serious mental problems that require a lot of help, people around her tell us.

Those who knew her told Page Six they feared she had turned to alcohol and drugs.

The 42-year-old “Hit Me, Baby” singer was photographed distraught outside Hollywood’s famed Chateau Marmont on Wednesday evening – hours after her divorce from third husband Sam Asghari was finalized. They were married for only a year.

The photos brought back unpleasant memories of Spears’ previous “breakdowns” in front of the cameras in 2007 and 2008.

One source told us she was worried she had become an addict, adding: “I’m sorry to say this, but this is what it would all turn out to be – this is what we were afraid of.”

Spears was seen leaving the legendary hotel barefoot, with a pillow and covered with a blanket.

As we reported, she had an argument with her boyfriend, Paul Richard Soliz, as a result of which an ambulance was called.

Soliz, who has been maintaining Britney’s Los Angeles home since 2022, has a lengthy criminal history and is accused of numerous offenses including disturbing the peace, child endangerment and driving without a license.

In December 2020, he was arrested for possession of a firearm by a felon and illegal possession of ammunition.

Soliz ultimately pleaded no contest and was sentenced to two years probation and 90 days in jail.

Britney’s 13-year guardianship, which protected her finances and health, ended in November 2021 following public outcry over her treatment, especially from her father.

Late last month, Britney’s legal dispute over Jamie defrauding her of millions was settled, with the star paying her father an estimated $2 million in legal fees.

However, a person familiar with the court case and the “Free Britney” online campaign told Page Six: “The narrative is that Britney was locked up for no good reason other than her father was angry and wanted to work every last penny out of her. it was always wrong.

“There is no doubt that Jamie Spears is a defective father and the way Britney was hired in Vegas was terrible. This should never have happened.

“But there is also no doubt that the conservatorship – and the interventions that preceded it – happened for a reason, and not because her dad wanted to extort money in some nefarious way.

“This was put in place because Britney has serious mental issues and has gone completely off track.”

Before the latest incident, a source familiar with Jamie told us: “I never believed Jamie was the villain in this situation.

“I think he has been unfairly vilified by people who know nothing about the situation and have nothing to do with it. I hate to say it, but it can be excused.”

The source pointed out that Judge Brenda Penny of Los Angeles County Superior Court never had Britney evaluated when she completed her conservatorship.

Judge Penny said at the time that there was “no need for a declaration of capacity” for Spears, noting that it was a voluntary conservatorship.

The singer’s ex-boyfriend, who he dated for several years while she was on probation, told Page Six: “I think she should get off all her meds, avoid drugs and alcohol and pick up a Bible.

“She also always said she wanted to go home to Louisiana. I hope so. I’m not sure why he’s still in Los Angeles. It’s a cesspool there.”

He also called Britney’s manager and best friend, Cade Hudson, an “opportunist” and said Britney needs more “real people” around her.

One person familiar with the conservation matter said: “So many, many railings have been put up – some might say a few too many and perhaps for a little too long – but now that every single one has been removed?

“The world is starting to see what Britney is like when left to her own devices and it’s not good.”

Oddly enough, Britney even blamed her estranged mom, Lynne Spears, for Thursday night’s incident.

A source familiar with the conservatorship told us, an insider said: “It will be even harder to take control of Britney now.

“Her family can’t get close to her… I’m worried that everyone else who comes into her orbit just wants her money.

“This is an absolute tragedy and there is no way this will end well.”

However, Sam Lufti, Britney’s mysterious former manager, told us: “I managed and lived with Britney and I have never seen anyone other than an amazing woman, an incredibly talented artist and an incredibly welcoming roommate.

“If you had cameras on you 24/7, I can assure you that you would have countless micro-moments of embarrassing but innocent footage.

“Britney dedicated her entire life to entertaining the world, and then was stabbed in the back by her family, the media and the justice system, all based on senseless news reports.

“Britney hasn’t hurt anyone, she’s an independent woman. He deserves more respect and privacy because he is entitled to it.”

Representatives for Britney and Hudson declined to comment.
